Job Purpose
To assist with the routine operation of Enlighten, the University’s institutional repository in relation to: Enlighten:Publications ; Enlighten:Theses and Enlighten:Dissertations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assign appropriate metadata to material deposited in the University’s institutional repository, using specialist knowledge and agreed metadata conventions.
2. Check material deposited to ensure that it complies with publisher requirements on copyright and versioning and that such deposits comply with licensing requirements and copyright law. Ensure material deposited complies with funder body requirements and those of the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
3. Participate in the delivery of training workshops for staff depositing material in Enlighten.
4. Assist with the promotion of the repository internally and externally, to demonstrate the University’s research output by participating in presentations and events and contributing to Enlighten web pages.
5. Perform quality checks and data cleansing on the repository (running on e-prints software), regularly reporting any issues/trends to Enlighten Team Leader.
6. Liaise with team leader and repository manager in order to identify development needs required to improve workflows and the effectiveness of the repository.
7. Undertake other duties as required in Library Services.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 (National 5 or 6, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
Desirable:
B1 Basic knowledge of the current issues surrounding Open Access in the UK.
B2 Basic knowledge of the issues surrounding repository management, open access and scholarly communication.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Excellent IT skills, including familiarity with a range of digital formats, desktop software and web maintenance software.
C2 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
C3 Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
C4 Good organisational skills.
C5 Attention to detail and the ability to work to a high level of accuracy in all work undertaken.
C6 Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently.
C7 Ability to work flexibly and effectively under pressure.
Desirable:
D1 Presentation skills.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Relevant recent work experience with the qualifications above or evidence of progression and development gained through relevant work experience.
E2 Experience of working in a customer focused environment.
E3 Experience of working in a team environment.
Desirable:
F1 Previous experience of working in the open access environment.
F2 Previous experience of working in higher or further education environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be on Grade 4, £21,197 – £23,715 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and open-ended.
New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
