Job description
Senior Library Assistant – 1x 18.5 hours per week
Based: Horncastle, Lincolnshire
Up to £20,688 pro rata + benefits
Horncastle Library, operated by GLL, is looking for a part time Senior Library Assistant to work 18.5 hours a week. Horncastle is a busy library giving access to a wide variety of collections and resources including books, self-service technology, public access computers and local reference collections. This is an exciting time to join our team as we improve and promote the library’s services for the people of Lincolnshire – whether it’s our valued existing users or widening the offering to a new group of customers.
With community at the heart of everything we do, as a Senior Library Assistant, you’ll ensure that every visitor to the Library is welcomed into a clean, safe and attractive environment with useful facilities that keep them wanting to return. As a key frontline staff member, you’ll adapt to, and acknowledge, the diversity of our visitors and what they aim to get out of their library visit as well as helping them to discover our wide range of resources and services. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will be apparent as you help people do everything from discovering new authors to tracking their ancestry from our records and even helping them find their ideal job using our IT systems.
You’ll ideally come from a library background, but it’ll be your enthusiasm for helping others and devotion to customer care that makes you really stand out. Naturally good with people, you’ll be able to put people of all ages and backgrounds at ease whilst helping to promote our services. Organised, efficient and thriving on variety, you’ll be competent using IT. Experience of using Library Management Systems, event planning and delivering story times and children’s activities will be useful but not essential as training will be given. As a key holder you will sometimes be responsible for opening and closing the library and cashing up along with banking. It goes without saying that you’ll need excellent numeracy, literacy and communication skills, but you’ll also need excellent administration skills, an understanding of the of health and safety at work and the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Knowledge of safety and security processes in a public building would be desirable but not essential as training will be given.
In return, we offer a range of benefits including pension schemes, uniform, childcare vouchers and ongoing opportunities for training and development. Apply now at http://www.better.org.uk/jobs
Closing date: 11th April 2023
