About the Team:
The Legal Commercial team supports a range of business functions within TikTok's European, UK and Nordics teams, including Marketing, Content, LIVE and User Growth working collaboratively with colleagues across the globe. We are looking for a highly skilled Commercial Media and Entertainment lawyer to join our EMEA legal team in London. Our ideal candidate brings experience of working within the digital media, content licensing and/or the tech industry, a strong knowledge of IP and the consumer law landscape for platforms. Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to our UK & European business teams on a variety of commercial and IP matters under time-sensitive conditions and assist on various IP projects including trade mark and content licensing.
- Work in collaboration with product and monetisation lawyers to support the evolution and scaling of TikTok's livestreaming function;
- Draft, negotiate and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including content licensing, talent management, creator engagement, sponsorships, production services, prize promotions, trade mark licensing and other brand enhancing activities.
- Distil complex information to deliver clear, precise and pragmatic advice to the business and support senior leadership with strategic decisions;
- Implement and continuously improve our templates, processes, workflows, best practices and know-how; regularly create and deliver training to the business;
- Build effective cross-team relationships across a highly matrixed organisation and collaborate closely with subject matter legal experts, particularly our Global IP and data privacy teams, local lawyers and other regional lawyers across the globe, and product and regulatory teams.
- Qualified into the commercial or media & entertainment/technology division of a private practice law firm or in house team and gained solid drafting and negotiating experience.
- A strong knowledge of intellectual property laws (in particular copyright and trade marks) and an understanding of the issues that arise in a UGC platform along with a good understanding of content & platform regulation across the UK and EU.
- Good working knowledge of consumer contracts, consumer protection laws and data protection laws across the UK and EU.
- A results-driven and strategic approach to drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements ensuring that plain English is always used.
- An ability to distil complex laws and information into concise, clear, and pragmatic advice under time pressure.
- Familiarity and experience advising on Article 17 of the EU Copyright Directive.
- Experience supporting legal operations and process improvements to enable a business to scale at pace and to improve and update existing resources and tools on a consistent basis.
- Exposure to working in a fast-paced environment, handling novel issues and providing timely, pragmatic advice to enable business decisions to be made quickly within an informed risk profile.
- Experience of supporting and supervising junior lawyers. Direct management experience is desirable.
- Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to build effective working relationships quickly.
- Experience of working in highly matrixed organizations and in an international business is a plus. The ability to speak other languages, in particular European languages, is also a plus.
