As Senior Legal Counsel you will be a member of a busy broad based Legal insurance / reinsurance team providing general legal and regulatory assistance but with specific duties as set out below.

What might you expect to do at AXA XL?
- Generally, work with underwriters, functional management, and international members of the AXA XL legal team on projects, queries, and continuous improvement across company and Lloyd’s markets;
- Focus on issues arising out of delegated underwriting and delegated claims as well as global programs and wordings;
- Assist AXA XL’s strategic distribution teams in ensuring compliant distribution models with AXA XL’s broking partners;
- Handle disputes with distribution partners;
- Draft various insurance related documents including Claims Administrator Agreements, Broker Service Agreements, Service Agreements for Electronic Placing Platforms;
- Contribute to AXA XL’s governance in relation to consumer products with an emphasis on conduct, including Product Oversight and FCA requirements e.g. Consumer Duty, Fair Value etc;
- Develop complex global programme structuring and reinsurance solutions, coordinating with tax, global program operation teams, and the global program centre of excellence;
- Assist and support underwriters and operations with legal queries with structure and implementation of global programs;
- Draft and maintain contracts with co-reinsurers, captives and other global program stakeholders, liaising with key stakeholders as required;
- Offer ad hoc legal support and analysis where needed;
- Advise underwriters in various jurisdictions on policy terms, legal risks and business terms of various deals;
- Independently manage various projects and deadlines;
- Provide training to the underwriters and staff on substantive legal and regulatory topics;
- Keep abreast of regulatory developments and industry initiatives and advise internal stakeholders accordingly;
- Participate on certain internal committees as legal representative.
You will report to the Head of Global Legal Functions and be a key member of the team, engaged in Global Programs, Delegated & Distribution/Broker matters, and wordings/product development.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Legal qualifications essential – ideally Law degree and qualified Solicitor or similar;
- Proven post-qualification legal work experience in a relevant field;
- Excellent written and collaborative communication;
- Able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment within financial services;
- An ability to work independently and on own initiative whilst being part of a wider team;
- Ability to prioritize conflicting needs and progress matters expeditiously, proactively and follow through on projects to successful completion;
- A proactive approach to problem-solving with good decision-making capability.
