BBC East Midlands is looking for an experienced text journalist or sub-editor to join our digital team based in Nottingham, providing oversight and direction for journalists. The aim is to continue to grow our reputation for reporting breaking news and telling compelling, original stories in creative new ways. You’ll commission, check and publish text stories and videos for the website, as well providing feedback to reporters to help develop their skills. You will need the skills to write and sub for BBC News Online as well as the quick decision-making and dynamism for writing and subbing short-form updates and social media posts. You’ll also have the flair to create exciting digital content. As a senior member of the team, you must be able to lead by example and inspire others.
Main ResponsibilitiesWorking as part of our multi-media planning team, you will help lead and inspire our cross-platform reporters working across the region – planning, commissioning and publishing upcoming content for BBC News Online and social media. This is a hands-on role; you will need to write and sub big stories and help oversee digital video production. Working closely with BBC East Midlands’ television and radio teams, you will ensure our best local content is directed towards digital audiences, while also delivering new and original stories, with the ambition to reach a wider audience on the BBC News website and social media.
Are you the right candidate?The successful candidate will work directly to the Digital Editor. You must have a strong editorial background, be skilled in delivering digital content, and have an extensive understanding of BBC News Online, social media and digital audiences. You will deliver or delegate stories and ensure opportunities are sought to utilise the talents of colleagues working in television and radio. You will sub content before publication, and aim to maximise reach locally and nationally via the BBC website and social media platforms. You will be ambitious, with a track record of increasing audience reach and delivering creative, impactful stories.

Contract: 6 Month FTC (Start Date 12/06/2023)
Location: Nottingham
You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.
