We are currently looking for experienced, motivated, and creative individuals to fill a Well Servicing Production Engineer position within Oxy’s Production Operations Well Servicing Team in Houston, TX.
This engineer works with the Well Service Team primarily focused on Plugging and Abandoning (P&A) and other problem wells across Occidental Resources Carbon Management. The successful candidate will work with Occidental functional teams, Workover and Completion Specialists (WOCS) to be the liaison between the WOCS & the Asset Development Engineers (ADE) to find solutions for problems on the more difficult wells as they are encountered. While the significant majority of well work takes place during regular business hours, this position requires the engineer to be available to consult with WOCS on a 24-hour basis for response to operational issues.
Responsibilities:
- Creating job procedures/AFE’s for executing P&A’s
- Developing Risk Assessments for approaching various P&A candidates
- Validating data that is submitted to Regulatory Agencies for P&A wells
- Validating data that is captured in OXY systems for P&A wells
- Working with internal & external regulatory groups
- Optimizing P&A well work processes
- Providing helpful input to ADE’s on P&A recommendations
- Develop professional relationships with regulatory agencies to streamline discussions for atypical abandonments.
- Actively participate in safety related efforts including field visits to rig crews and WOCS
- Significant majority of well work takes place during regular business hours, this position requires the engineer to be available to consult with WOCS on a 24-hour basis for response to operational issues
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field required.
- 5 years production/completions engineering experience
- Self starter
- Familiar with Texas and New Mexico Oil and Gas Regulatory standards
- Strong commitment and record of leadership in safety
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
- Strong influencing skills – demonstrated ability to present recommendations and obtain buy-in from multiple functions/individuals
- Demonstrated ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and short deadlines
- Proficiency in performing economic evaluations of projects including risk analysis
- Project Management skills and experience
- Competent computer skills including the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook. Proficient skills in technical and economic software packages
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at one time
- Effective and clear communication skills, written and verbal
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to use petroleum engineering theory to solve problems
- Experience with different types of artificial lift
- Working knowledge of oilfield chemistry as it relates to corrosion, scale and paraffin deposition
- Past exposure to water & CO2 flooding is a plus
- Experience in Permian Basin operations is a plus
