Job Title: Senior IT Infrastructure Support Engineer
Location: Predominantly working at home (Occasional travel throughout the County)
Starting Salary: £38,296 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £42,503 (pro rata for part-time)
Hours: 37 hours per week

Are you an experienced infrastructure engineer looking for a diverse and challenging role within the exciting world of the emergency services?
We are looking for an exceptional engineer with a strong background in IT infrastructure. The role requires a diverse skillset as we are a small team managing a wide range of technologies. We are looking for an engineer who specialises in server infrastructure, virtualisation, storage, backups, and infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate would have a long and proven history working in these areas and acting as a senior figure within a team of second and third-line engineers. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running, has a desire to learn and to make a difference.
This is a great opportunity for someone who not only would like to work with infrastructure but also learn other aspects to our blue light services, such as radios, bespoke applications, and other forms of communications technologies.
You will be working within the Digital Services team, a department within the Community Protection Directorate of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is part of the Hertfordshire County Council. The Community Protection Directorate are the lead authority of the East Coast and Hertfordshire Fire Collaboration which consists of Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Humberside, and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Services.
Digital Services support all applications, IT infrastructure and communications equipment for Community Protection Directorate, East Coast and Hertfordshire Fire Collaboration. This Includes: In house and 3rd Party software, Microsoft technologies, Windows Servers, SQL Servers, System Centre, Office suite, Hyper V, desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, mobile data terminals, mobile phones, and pagers. This also includes mission critical application and system support for the Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service 24x7x365 days for the purpose of mobilising fire engines and personnel.
Digital Services also have a continuous replacement programme of applications and systems, IT infrastructure and communications equipment. You will be involved in gathering user requirements and creating specification, assisting in procurement, and implementing new infrastructure and communications equipment.

Working within the Digital Services team has lots to offer. Working in a small team managing a wide range of technologies means there is more opportunities for exposure to those technologies. This makes each day interesting with a continuous learning opportunity. One day you could be implementing a new SAN, and the next working with suppliers and stakeholders to find a new solution to mobilising crews. Working for a good cause means there is a real unity within the team and organisation.
We are at some key stages to evolving our infrastructure as well as new partnerships with other Fire Services, this is an ideal time for someone new to join our team and will help bring them up to speed.
Training will be supplied for any niche or bespoke technologies.
