The opportunity
Project: Sizewell C is a landmark project to plan, design and build two EPR™ nuclear reactors located on the East Coast of Suffolk, England. It will deliver nuclear electricity at a cost that is competitive with other low-carbon sources and will generate 7% of the UK’s energy, with a capacity of 3,260 MWh. At peak, the SZC Construction Site will have c.6000 persons working at any one time.
The role sits within the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team, reporting to the Associate Director, Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
The primary purpose of this role is to provide visible, effective HSW. The role will be representing Mace on the project providing guidance and advice to assist with the effective management of health, safety and wellbeing across the project. The postholder will be required to work with all stakeholders to create a one team approach. The multi- stakeholder environment will require the postholder to play a key role play in driving and assuring a safe and healthy environment for the wider workforce and public.
The role-holder will provide support, and influence decisions affecting Health, Safety and Wellbeing, working closely with the Project Director and their team, supply chain partners, the Client and other relevant stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintain core areas of expertise and impart knowledge to aid the development and delivery of HSW within Mace.
- Maintain a focus on continuous improvement. Develop and apply tools and techniques, define business/project strategies and methods to initiate and/or implement change to improve project and business performance.
- Provide professional advice to directors and managers, to assist them in achieving project objectives.
- Maintain awareness of business implications of own activities to improve the quality of technical or business recommendations.
- Maintain personal network. Create, develop and maintain an extensive range of internal/external relationships to maximise impact of expertise and knowledge to influence the quality of strategic decision making.
- Understand the contractual and statutory requirements related to the projects within the defined portfolio and maintain ability to be able to advise accordingly to protect the project’s integrity.
- Establish, develop and maintain corporate relationships with customers, partners and suppliers to assist the achievement of business targets.

About you:
- Proven track record of achieving excellent safety results on major construction and engineering projects.
- Able to undertake audits and other assurance activities as required
- Able to carry out and oversee incident reporting, investigation and associated event management.
- Have a good understanding of the value of managing health, safety and wellbeing through the analysis and use of leading indicators
- Have a good working understanding of construction safety and related UK legislation.
- Have a good working understanding of the CDM Regulations, including the role of Principle Contractor and Principal Designer and how such are understood and applied within a Consultancy and construction context.
- Able to undertake performance monitoring and measurement.
- Able to plan and deliver on objectives as determined.
- Act as an advisor in own area of expertise, to keep the project abreast of new developments, and apply professional standards to ensure best practice.
Skills / Qualifications:
- Diploma or equivalent NVQ in Occupational SafetySafety & Health and significant qualitative experience
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CMIOSH, MIIRSM)
- Quantifiable CPD programme.
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015 and ISO 45001
