Job description
Working as a Senior Associate at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, this is a Senior Finance Officer role overseeing our accounts payable function. This post is responsible for the effective and efficient day to day management of our accounting operations function ensuring the provision of a high quality customer-focussed service to the Commission.
Working in the Commission’s finance team based in our Manchester office you will undertake a wide range of activities, as set out below.
You will:
- manage the Commission’s Purchase to Pay system and purchase ledger; ensuring that all transactions comply with Government regulations;
- maintain a robust but proportionate control environment, explaining finance processes to non-finance staff, providing training and ensuring compliance with organisational and government policy;
- manage the sales ledger, income processing and banking, including monthly reconciliations, such as procurement card and bank reconciliations;
- complete the weekly payment run and assisting with the production of the monthly payroll;
- report on the Commission’s spend and performance as required;
- assist in administering the finance system (e.g. setting up new suppliers or cost centre codes, adding new users);
- line and task manage one colleague within the accounts payable function in the team.
Person specification
The role requires a self-starter with excellent organisational skills to manage a busy accounts payable function, providing superior customer service to a wide range of internal customers and suppliers, whilst ensuring that Commission policies and procedures are effectively enforced and maintained.
Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills required include:
- Minimum AAT Level 3 qualified or equivalent experience
- Proven experience of working in a busy financial operations environment, preferably within the civil service or similar.
- Experience of advising on day-to-day financial queries and policies and ensuring compliance with policies;
- Proficiency and experience in a variety of ICT applications including electronic purchase to pay systems, and MS Excel and Word;
- Excellent administration and organisation skills with the ability to effectively manage and prioritise your workload and work to tight deadlines;
- Knowledge of GDPR and Data Protection and be able to maintain confidentiality;
- Attention to detail and accuracy even when working under pressure.

The salary for this role is £32,101.20. Those joining us from the Civil Service on a level transfer, will be offered the pay point closest to their current salary, wherever possible.
