Job Title: Health Care Assistant (HCA)

Reports to: Lead Nurse / Practice Manager

Hours: 21 hours per week over 3 days

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time (21 hrs) HCA to join our Nursing team.

We are looking to appoint an experienced HCA who and can work across both our sites at Langworthy Medical Practice and The University of Salford Health Centre when required, and provide house visits for our housebound patients who require bloods.

Job Summary:

  • The post holder will offer general assistance and support to the Practice Nursing Team, liaising closely with the Lead Nurse across both sites
  • The post holder will be involved in phlebotomy, undertaking the new patient health checks, urinalysis, ECG recording, Long term health condition reviews, Health promotion, vaccinations, chaperoning patients, maintaining hygiene standards, maintenance of equipment and the recording of refrigerator temperature daily, and re‐stocking GP’s and Nurse’s treatment rooms and house visits.
  • The post holder will also be responsible for documenting patient consultations on the Emis clinical information system in General Practice
  • They will maintain patient confidentiality and will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Practice Nurse and within Practice Guidelines and Protocols at all times.
  • Be flexible to work across both sites and able to commute to both sites with your own transport.

Main Purpose of Post:

Job responsibilities

  • To act in such a manner as to support the patient at all times and be mindful of the need to reduce anxiety for the patient
  • To provide a phlebotomy service for patients
  • To be responsible for the processing and management of laboratory samples requested by the GP/ Practice Nurses with specific responsibility to ensure that the samples are correctly labelled, sent to the laboratory promptly and that data is entered onto the patient’s computer records
  • To assist in restocking clinical area with supplies and health promotion materials as agreed with GPs/Nursing Team and to restock all rooms as appropriate
  • To assist in general nursing duties, under the supervision of the Practice Nursing Team, i.e.
  • Urine testing, weight/height, blood pressure measurements, ECG recording, NHS Health Checks, smoking cessation advice,Long term health condition reviews, Health promotion, vaccinations, and any other duties that may be assigned as necessary
  • To act as a chaperone as required to GPs and Practice Nurses
  • To participate in the induction programme of staff and trainees new to the practice
  • To receive and document telephone messages as and when necessary and communicate to other members of the clinical team as appropriate

Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

Langworthy Medical Practice is committed to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults within its care. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

· Computer passwords must not be shared either between systems or users.

· The practice may monitor e-mail messages, any files stored on the networks or on equipment and usage of the Internet, NHS.net and computer systems, irrespective of whether these relate to the surgery or personal use.

· Access and usage to practice computers must be in accordance with the surgery Policies.

The post-holder will:

Disclosure and Baring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order0 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and baring Service (Formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
