We are looking for new team members who are passionate about landscape, ecology, planning and global sustainability. You will be joining an influential team of dedicated professional consultants and have the opportunity to help shape places and protect the environment. You should have a degree or perhaps a Masters degree in an appropriate environmental discipline, especially geography, planning, ecology, environmental science or landscape architecture and want to work in our prestigious office with its glorious views of the Cotswolds and regency Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.
This post has been designed with full-time employment in mind (full time 37.5 hours per week) however part-time options will be considered.
Lepus is a specialist environmental planning and environmental assessment consultancy, delivering projects on behalf of a range of public and private sector clients. Lepus prepares and advises on strategic environmental planning matters, undertakes ecological assessments, delivers landscape character assessments and prepares comprehensive spatial analysis of land use planning policy issues and proposals using GIS.
Any relevant work experience will be an advantage but is not essential. You will ideally have at least 1 years’ experience of environmental assessment and planning, however we are able to offer training for graduates if necessary. You should feel able to promote the cause of landscape and ecology-led planning and policy development in a responsible and professional manner that balances the needs of people with environmental protection, enhancement and management.
Broad knowledge of the UK’s environmental planning system, including a good knowledge of the NPPF and PPG in relation to landscape, ecology and strategic environmental assessment is desirable. Excellent report writing skills are essential, as is an enquiring mind and and strong analytical skills.
You will be joining a skilled team of environmental consultants who will train you and support you in your journey towards becoming an experienced consultant. Externally, through your relationship with clients and peers as part of your professional membership of a recognised national society such as RTPI, CIEEM, IEMA, LI, CIWEM etc, you will become part of the national fabric of people who wish to make a difference to place making, quality of life, tackling climate change and safeguarding our environment for future generations.
Responsibilities and job profile
Consultancy expertise:
Support senior consultant team with the environmental assessment of plans and programs. Maintain a strong awareness of how the latest changes to legislation have an impact on client projects.
Report writing:
Write clearly written and easy to follow reports. Interpret data and format it into high quality, comprehensive reports, written in a manner that is robust yet can still be understood by non-technical people.
Team work:
Assist with team management and supporting the consultant team. Have the ability to work as part of a team and the capacity to work independently. Ideally, be able to show experience of working in a consultancy environment and working as part of a small team.
Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in a related discipline. Ideally, entry level relevant professional membership of organisations such as CIEEM, CIWEM, the Landscape Institute, IEMA or the RTPI.
Data analysis:
Be able to analyse geographic datasets for a range of technical disciplines including, for example, biodiversity, flood risk, transportation and socioeconomic factors. Experience or training in GIS is desirable.
