Location: Manchester (2 days in the office, the rest from home)

Salary Benefits £73,616 - £92,020 base salary, plus annual discretionary bonus, 15% employer pension contribution (when you put in 6%), private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.

Our Lab is a co-located team who work together on key initiatives to deliver value at pace by designing services that colleagues & customers find useful, intuitive and engaging to use. Our Lab has a strong focus on complex problem solving in an agile environment where engineers are free to experiment and create innovative products which will transform the way our customers engage with us.

About the role
As a Senior Solution Architect, you'll lead from the front and work closely with Engineering Leads and Product Owners in defining and realising our Digital strategy, whilst growing and shaping our Solution Architecture capability, through coaching and mentoring Lab Engineers to help realise their true potential and our architecture vision.
Your contribution will be instrumental to our strategy of simplifying, modernising, and de-risking the Colleague Channels technology landscape, enabling the Bank of the Future and ultimately driving value for customers and shareholders.
What you’ll do
  • Work with senior collaborators across our labs to demonstrate diligence, insight and willingness to challenge
  • Define and agree the Tech Roadmap and Architectural Strategy for the lab
  • Work with feature teams to define the solution architecture for initiatives & projects
  • Track and manage IT Roadmap, driving best practice initiatives.
  • Shape our control framework, working with Engineers and Architects to deliver a repeatable set of patterns and standards befitting modern digital development
  • Act as a key partner to our senior software engineers
  • Ensuring that our architecture roadmap is a key input into our technical delivery.
What we need from you
We need a leader in Solution Architecture who knows and understands the challenges in modern software development. You can tell stories and build a powerful image of where we’re going from an architecture and design perspective. This role is predominantly technical, coupled with an understanding of technology implications for people and process to bring this to your holistic view of design.
This is a leadership role, providing direction for Architects, Lab Engineers and Product Owners, blending domain knowledge and deep technical expertise to coach cross-disciplinary feature teams to deliver high quality maintainable software
The minimum skills and experience you’ll need to apply.
  • Prior experience in a Senior Solution Architecture position.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development practices
  • Strong understanding of building applications through containerised microservices-based architectures, with a strong understanding of cloud methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure and security architecture practices and principles.
  • Experience leading a team/people management.
  • TOGAF or equivalent qualifications.
  • Proven track record of delivering technical solutions at scale.
