Job description
We seek an experienced power electronics engineer focused on developing efficient power electronics devices (OrCAD, KiCAD, Proteus) required to facilitate the adoption of clean transportation. The candidate will be responsible for designing and leading the manufacturing of power electronics devices integrated into EV charging infrastructures and OtaskiES Digital lamppost to enable bidirectional flow of power for V2G/X technology. The candidate will also provide support to the energy team, providing detailed risk assessments and developing control system mechanisms using MATLAB.
Responsibilities will be:
- Prepare electrical layout and detailed drawings and schematics
- Experience using Electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, and PSPICE Simulators is an asset.
· Experience in solar energy, microgrid power systems and power electronics are assets
· Ability to develop energy dispatch models for energy storage and renewable power systems
· Software Tools familiarity with the following, or comparable: System Modellings such as PVsyst, Homer, and PSCAD
· Programmings such as MATLAB, Python and VBA
· Proficiency in Microsoft excel.
- Create full electrical design packages including BOM, schematics, assembly drawings and layouts.
· Check & validate all final design documentation, parts lists and drawings according to design & contract requirements, to ensure completeness & accuracy
· Review and interpret customer and vendor drawings and specifications
- Schematic and PCB design using KiCAD, Altium, Eagle, or other PCB CAD tools
- Assemble, solder, and test prototype PCBs
- BOM optimization, component evaluations, datasheet analysis
- In-circuit testing (ICT) and Functional testing (FCT) of PCBs
- Verify product specifications and Design Validation Plan
- Circuit simulations using Multisim, TI WebBench and other simulation software
- Work with other firmware engineers to define the system architecture of our products
- Rapid prototyping and validation of electrical designs
- Optimizing designs for power, miniaturization and cost
- Design printed circuit boards from engineering-supplied schematics.
- Stay up to date with the latest innovations and trends that are relevant to the company, and the field of AC/DC power distribution
- Provide technical support during production: troubleshoot production rejects and field returns, support and/or initiate continuous improvement, design, validate and maintain high volume functional testers for production use, etc.
- Liaise with manufacturers for mass production.
- Participate in customer deployments.
Qualifications
- Experience in the development of systems-level electrical specifications and requirements
· Experienced with the design, development, and verification of electrical systems from planning to execution
· Supporting business development pertaining to electrical system engineering designs and costing activities
· Experience using Electrical CAD tools such as ORCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, and PSPICE Simulators is an asset.
· Familiarity with electrical workmanship and quality standards would be an asset
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and organization skills
- Experience with Power Electronics, specifically with DC-DC conversion topologies, and PFC circuits.
- Experience with Gate Drives, High Impedance Fault Management circuits, and Signal processing.
- Experience with SMPS
- Experience using Oscilloscopes and other debugging tools.
· Automatic control system design
- Experience with PoE (Power over Ethernet)
- Experience with RF design; EMI, EMC, and antennas
- Experience designing PCBs with microcontrollers including Espressif, Nordic semiconductors, Microchip, Analog Devices and SiLabs SoCs
- Experience managing the full life cycle of a design project, from development to production release
- Extensive experience with digital/analog circuit design and PCB layout design;
- Experience with circuit protection design, products and methods.
- Experience with designing for manufacturability, scalability and longevity
- Experience with Embedded systems and microcontrollers
- Experience with Buses (i.e PCIe, Ethernet (Gigabit), comms);
- Design experience using embedded control systems;
- Solid working knowledge of IoT strategy, standards and protocols.
- Experience with a variety of communication protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, etc.)
- Experience with embedded system integrations (Thermal Cameras, environmental sensors, passive sensors, capacitive sensors)
- Technical report writing and drawing, writing technical documentation and sequence diagrams
- Understanding of design for certifiability to standards such as CSA and UL
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities
- Ability to contribute and work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Skills Preferred
- Microcontroller firmware design experience including C programming
- Experience with designing for intrinsic safety
Good to have:
Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
