Overall Purpose of the Role

To enhance and grow the EMEA business through outstanding on-trend retail solutions, keeping our character equity and storytelling front of mind, helping to increase visibility of The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) portfolio of brands and franchises. Stimulate and motivate retailers through the creation of in-store/on-line POS and visuals that showcase the potential of our brands at retail. Create inspirational, on trend retail creative to help drive awareness of our products, adding excitement and magic to the everyday shopping experience.

Be responsible for ensuring consistent brand communication, designing against set briefs, creating engaging, on brand solutions for in-store and online. Scope of work consists of, predominantly, the creation of concepts and artwork assets for points of sale (POS), digital and marketing activations accounts across EMEA. Working closely with and adhering to our partner/retailer corporate guidelines and templates whilst ensuring brand consistency across the TWDC portfolio of brands and franchises.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Develop creative assets that will enable growth for relevant TWDC franchises from conception through to artwork development and distribution including but not limited to retail trend research, initial concepts through to final art work, logo lock-ups, sell-in/retail visuals, retailer POS and digital assets
  • Work closely with other consumer segment and product design teams to ensure creative alignment and support on wider projects as required
  • Ensure all assets are creatively and technically correct before submitting for approval by Senior Design Manager, Retail or Lead Designer, Retail, and other key stakeholders
  • Contribute to developing trend boards and new ideas (ideation) that can add innovation and freshness into future projects, with a view to building on existing strategies
  • Maintain full compliance with corporate guidelines, delivering a commitment to producing work, which ensures character and design consistency and integrity
  • Build effective relationships among the wider creative community, maximising their specialist knowledge in order to create relevant designs that push the boundaries
  • As required, attend trade shows to broaden understanding of the EMEA market place seeking out ideas and new creative solutions in order to fully understand the business
  • Actively participate in creative brainstorming sessions with the internal or external teams
  • Provide relevant creative support, e.g. downloading, backing up, archiving, creating digital presentations, as required
  • Work closely with product teams, designers and artists to ensure character and franchise integrity are maintained and design and art styles work are synchronised
  • Work closely with Design Manager/Senior Design Manager, Retail to ensure projects are planned and executed effectively to meet deadlines on time and keep within budgets

Experience and Professional Qualifications Required

  • Degree-level education in Art and Design/Graphic Design or Fashion Design and/or equivalent work experience
  • Proven commercial design experience in a retail design, graphics and/or branding role
  • Experience in creating in-Store and experiential 3D visuals
  • Extensive understanding of our key partner retailer templates and guidelines
  • A solid understanding of TWDC characters and storytelling and how it translates to product and packaging with the ability to integrate into trends inventively
  • Expert understanding of all elements of design: illustration, pattern, page layout, colour, packaging design, pack engineering, cutter guide generation, retail design and trends with the ability to create new graphic design assets and packaging from scratch

Skills Required

  • Ability to create both core design solutions as well as new interpretive and trend-right styles
  • An awareness of current marketplace trends in the design and retail environment
  • An ability to understand and apply colour theory and usage
  • Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Keynote, essential
  • Ability to work as a team or individually to achieve goals
  • Conceptual, innovative thinker
  • Able to clearly communicate and present vision/ideas
  • Able to demonstrate strong technical skills
  • Resilient and nimble in an ever changing landscape
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload
  • Ability to communicate design ideas using freehand drawing, computer techniques and/or third party design resources to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Written and spoken English for business use, essential; professional proficiency in other European languages, beneficial
  • Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of local markets across EMEA
