Reporting into our Head of SAP, you’ll provide direction and support strategic leadership decisions that impact our SAP systems and its core applications across Penguin Random House UK.

Our SAP Centre of Excellence is an important pillar within our broader Technology division, which provides a broad range of expertise and effective solutions to Penguin Random House. Known for integrating flexibility and agility to support our consistent ways of working, our colleagues in Technology set our business up for success. Each member of the Technology division brings skill and initiative to their role, taking personal ownership within a one team culture, working collaboratively to meet expectations from stakeholders across the business who trust us to deliver.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the continuous build, test and deploy processes within our Technology environments.

  • Collaborating with the solution architecture team where required.

  • Providing a clearly defined strategic plan of work for the team including resource allocation.

  • Delivering system and application performance improvements to agreed cost, quality and time estimates.

  • Assisting the development and maintenance teams in their usage of the build process.

  • Working with the QA & Release Manager to help achieve a high-quality release practice.

  • Assessing and implementing software upgrades, patches and point releases where required.

  • Defining the creation of the strategic roadmap for the Warehouse and Distribution Systems team.

  • Implementing, enhancing, and actively supporting quality standards throughout the build process.

  • Working with the other Leads to agree an appropriate end-to-end process that supports the inception, discovery, design, build, test and implementation of projects, including stage gates and appropriate documentation.

To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have in-depth knowledge of SAP operations, project management and development procedures.

  • Have solid experience as a Senior Manager with a demonstrated understanding of team management and collaboration.

  • Understand the technical SAP delivery process within Waterfall and Agile environments.

  • Identify technical and process improvement opportunities and advocate to get them implemented.

  • Be able to translate and communicate Technology requirements to non-technical colleagues.

  • Have experience of building processes and implementing new ways of working.

  • Feel confident to make strategic business decisions, considering relevant risks, long term implications, commercial realities and manage stakeholder needs with the support of our Head of SAP.

Our approach to hybrid working:

While our offices are places for you to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, having flexibility about where you work is just as important for doing your best work and for your wellbeing. So, we don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to how we work across Penguin Random House UK.

For this role, there are some meetings and activities that you will need to attend in person, mainly at our offices in London or Colchester. Outside of these moments, you can choose to work remotely.

Please apply with your CV and cover letter by Sunday 21st May.

Salary: £75,000 - £95,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus benefits.
