Job Title: Senior Controls & Instrumentation Engineer – Test Facilities Engineering
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (Depending on Experience)
Location : Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Within the Industrial Power Systems Division of Caterpillar, Global Engine Development is responsible for the execution of new engine and power system development programmes. This role will support the Electronics, Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) function within the Test Facilities Engineering team in our dedicated state of the art Europe Research & Development Centre at the Caterpillar Business Park, Peterborough, UK.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this vacancy is a senior engineering position in an exciting and dynamic team responsible for the test cell control systems as well as the instrumentation equipment deployed throughout the building. This ranges from PLC architecture through to test cell pressure and temperature measurements and their associated calibration and measurement uncertainty analysis.
The work will involve being part of a group of five engineers supporting a mixture of pro-active projects as well as complex problem-solving reacting to the needs of the development programs throughout the facility. Interaction with the Technician group is critical to support the operational element of the team and help drive continual improvement and efficiency. This role will also play a part in contributing to the next generation controls and instrumentation strategy to ensure the facility is ready for the next wave of product development. The successful applicant will become key members of the wider Test Facilities Engineering team and be expected to interact and work with wider team based on the project work assigned.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Evaluation, deployment and integration of control systems, instrumentation and associated infrastructure.
Lead complex problem solving across the development value-stream collaborating with engineers and technicians
Collaborate with the global team in UK, China and North America
Collation and distribution of findings in technical reports.
Develop, document, and maintain processes
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Experience of working in an engine/powertrain test cell environment, or with relevant control and measurement systems.
Team working skills to operate effectively with engineers, technicians, suppliers, and customers.
Project leadership experience.
Excellent attention to detail and a focus on quality.
Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks with the capacity for continuous learning.
Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to provide concise insights, conclusions and recommendations drawn from complex technical data.
An Engineering / Technical Degree or be qualified through relevant work experience.
