Job summary
We are seeking a talented colleague to lead on communications within FSET. This is an exciting time to be joining the FSET team as we progress through a period of reform to support Government Reform and Priorities.
This is a key role that provides an excellent career opportunity to lead in a lively, fast-paced and changing environment and to play a key role in devising an effective communications strategy for FSET.
Job description
You will act as a trusted adviser to FSET Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in relation to comms matters, working in partnership with colleagues to deliver FSET priorities and to positively influence Fast Streamer engagement.
You will provide high-quality, relevant counsel and interventions based on audience insight to the senior leadership team in the four common engagement themes of:
- Vision and leadership
- Engaging managers
- Hearing staff voice
- Organisational integrity.
A key part of the role will be to help to drive high performance and organisational improvement offering FSET colleagues support, advice and expertise to make sure messages land with the right people, at the right time and in the right way.
The successful candidate will be able to ensure impactful communications with the main audiences of approximately 200 FSET colleagues and 2,000+ Fast Streamers across the UK and also, from time to time, other stakeholders.
They should be able to apply the latest communication practice following a series of steps that help bring order and clarity to planning
Responsibilities;
- Devise and deliver an internal communication strategy for FSET ensuring that communication has the maximum benefits for all staff and linked to business goals.
- Publication of key Fast Streamer communications via the Fast Stream Messenger service, including regular fortnightly updates and other key/urgent communications.
- Maintenance of FSET Intranet presence by editing and publishing content provided by FSET to promote the work of the unit focusing on the FSET priority areas of effective leaders, transformation and making “FSET a great place to work”.
- Provide regular bulletins to FSET and wider GSCU staff.
- Be aware of emerging comms issues and brief the FSET SLT on the appropriate handling and response.
- Support SLT visibility by planning potential engagement activity.
- Provide expert stakeholder engagement advice and support to all areas of FSET.
- Provide support and leadership to wider FSET engagement events including all staff events, Fast Stream Base Camp, celebration/ promotion events etc

Key Skills and Experience
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an eye for detail and strong personal impact
- A creative thinker with experience of delivering creative communications campaigns across a range of channels including digital and social media channels
- Ability to conduct, track and analyse research, highlighting opportunities and risks and identifying ways to improve communications
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask
- Ability to work quickly and flex to changing priorities in a busy environment across competing tasks
- Able to build strong working relationships across a diverse partner network
- Ensuring effective coordination and management of the planning process and forward look grid
Experience
- Considerable experience of developing and delivering communications strategies
- You must be able to provide evidence of relevant communications experience in a comparable role and a good knowledge of communication good practices
