Oyster farm worker Larne, Northern Ireland
Job description
We are looking for seasonal or full time workers at Magheramorne, in Lough Larne. Departure with the aquaculture vessel is from Ballylumford Harbour. Suitable candidates will be offered a full time position on our oyster farm in Magheramorne, Larne Lough. The job will entail assisting in all work associated with operating the oyster farm.
No knowledge of shellfish farming is needed, as full training will be given. However, preference will be given to applicants who have experience of farming. High level of fitness essential for this position.
Please be aware that a high level of fitness is required by the nature of this job. Also, access to the oyster farm is during low tides so every day starts at different time, between 7 am and 9 pm. We are pretty much exposed to the environment and weather conditions.
Thursday and Friday are harvest and shipping days and must be attended. Other days are more flexible.
Tasks include:
Harvesting oysters.
Washing and grading oyster seed.
Preparation, bagging and dispatch of finished product.
Maintenance of equipment.
