Are you a proven manager of collections or houses? Can you bring your conservation knowledge to this close knit team? We need someone who can champion fantastic collections care and practise, visitor welcome and the day to day operation of managing volunteers to give great experiences.
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Interviews: Will take place week commencing 17th July
Contract: Fixed term until January 2025

This role works across the Derwent, Wear and Coast Portfolio and the properties you’ll be working at are covered in the attachment. The successful post holder can be based at Souter Lighthouse, Gibside, Washington Old Hall or Crook Hall Gardens and will be expected to travel to all of them.

As the senior lead for House & Collections, you’ll be responsible for the implementation of preventive conservation and cleaning programmes to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation. You’ll also be responsible for the planning and implementation of conservation projects, collections care ensuring appropriate resources are in place to provide a consistent and excellent visitor experience.
You'll collect and accurately record information to inform our understanding of the house and the collection and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. Leading by example you’ll ensure a culture of excellent customer care, engaging our visitors with conservation and the values and behaviours of the National Trust.
Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Knowledge of preventive conservation
- Experience of collections management and care in historic environments
- People management skills, including rota planning, objective setting and conducting performance reviews
- Good written and verbal communication skills including public presentation
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and emergency procedures
- Ability to contribute original or imaginative ideas to make the collections or house more accessible.
