Location
Hybrid working with base location as either Edinburgh, Manchester, Coventry, Widnes, Milton Keynes or London.
In a nutshell
The role holder is responsible for defining and implementing the Environmental management strategy and supporting processes for SBAFS and will be responsible for managing all test environments used for test execution. The role holder is an “air traffic controller” for environments and technical components required to test and assure software / infrastructure components for release to production. The role is one focused primarily on tracking and scheduling, but it also involves managing the build, maintenance, and integration of technical components to support testing across multiple versions of interconnected systems.
What you need to do
- Define, deliver, and own the Environmental Management strategy and processes for the SBAFS
- Lead and collaborate with Project Managers, Test Managers, Engineering/Cloud Managers, Systems Integrators to understand the project pipelines, project requirements, technical dependencies in order define the approach and sequencing of projects in conjunction with environment management constraints.
- Forecast environment requirements based on anticipated future demand
- Responsible for the development and oversight of supplier infrastructure and environments delivery plans for SBAFS Projects
- Collaborate with Release Management to support a continuous release schedule across multiple groups
- Lead and manage the coordination of effort to build / configure environments and provide the tracking status of environment configuration activities.
- Define key environmental management and efficiency KPI’s & implement monitoring protocols to ensure uptime of test environments is in line with KPI’s
- Ensure communication frameworks for test environment availability are in place
- Escalate any lack of resources or gaps in knowledge to Test Practice Management & Senior Portfolio Test Managers
- Mentor and train Environment Analysts, members of the test team and wider business who need to support with the Environmental management processes.
What you need to know and show
- Experience in test environments build / provision for isolated subsystems and end-to-end enterprise solutions configuration using a mixture of cloud-based infrastructure and or physical components.
- Excellent release automation and configuration management experience along with service virtualisation
- Experience in AWS , NODE JS, API creation and manipulation of code to produce data sets, alongside management of test data
- In-depth understanding of modern approaches to deployment automation on both cloud-based infrastructure and physical components.
- Demonstrates that they are fully commercially aware in the context of environmental services and project delivery whilst competent in approaches to continuous improvement and automation
- Proven ability to define input to and understand test strategies that encompass the full testing life cycle.
- Supplier management skills developed in an IT environment using internal and external resources.
- Must have a track record of scheduling, organising and tracking the progress of environment work across multiple projects across the full software development lifecycle using a variety of tool sets.
- Experienced in Agile methods (SCRUM, SAFe etc.) and waterfall hybrid environments and be able to adapt.
- Excellent relationship management skills including a proven ability to influence at a Senior Management leader with passionate edge that creates a buzz that amazing people want to be part of
- Demonstrates competence in all key areas of management and leadership – communication, motivation/delegation, financial planning and control, quality management, risk analysis and delivery.
