Job Description


Are you a Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer with strong analytical skills and experience in design and technical delivery of civil engineering projects?

We are looking Senior Civil Engineers to join our established Water team, with a flexible base and hybrid working approach, across the Midlands or North of England.

We recognise a variety of experience and backgrounds may suit this role and that experience levels in specific technical areas may vary. If you feel you only meet some of the requirements below or have transferrable skills, we would still love to hear from you!

Our Water team has delivered some of the most high-profile projects across the UK, so your projects and clients will be varied and interesting. Examples of our current projects and clients include:

  • Severn Trent Water – AECOM has been appointed to deliver design services for major schemes in AMP7. Our portfolio of projects is building rapidly and includes some of the most strategically important schemes for Severn Trent.
  • Thames Water – AECOM has positions across all scales of delivery including major projects such as Thames Tideway Tunnel, Deephams STW upgrade and ‘Capital Delivery’ infra and non-infra schemes across the Thames region.
  • Wessex Water – AECOM has been appointed on several AMP7 frameworks, including the Capital Delivery framework. We offer ongoing opportunities for professional development.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with our Water and other supply discipline teams across the country, delivering high-caliber technical quality, contributing to bids, and interfacing with clients and collaborators throughout the design and planning stages. As someone who seeks innovation and is naturally inquisitive, you'll explore new methods and ideas. You'll oversee the project from conception to handover, with some of these projects being large-scale and prestigious, contributing to your professional portfolio.

You will also conduct site visits, performing site surveys and supporting liaisons with clients, government authorities, contractors, and suppliers. Additionally, you will be responsible for delivering projects within the agreed budget, timeline, and quality parameters, as well as assisting in the preparation of project budgets and schedules.


Qualifications


We seek candidates who:

  • Possess civil design and technical delivery experience in Water, Utilities, Oil & Gas, or Transportation sectors.
  • Have experience with project stages: feasibility, outline, detailed design, and construction support.
  • Can adhere to established procedures and design standards.
  • Are proficient in 3D Design tools and proprietary software.
  • Can take full accountability for generating, reviewing, and approving engineering reports and designs.
  • Offer mentorship, guidance, and expert advice for junior staff.
  • Can execute work within agreed-upon budget and timeline.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Are proficient in digital delivery with BIM and 3D design tools.
  • Possess experience working with contractors in design and build settings. Demonstrate contractual knowledge, such as NEC4.
  • Understand program planning software; Microsoft Projects or Primavera P6.
  • Hold recognized Health & Safety qualifications within the industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an HNC, degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering
  • Work toward a relevant professional chartership; for example, ICE.
