This job description makes references to both Daily Home Care, and Live-In Care, as our experience is that sometimes Home Care Assistants may work in both areas of the business from time to time.
Daily home care means any work involving short (e.g. 1 hour calls, day sits, shifts, sleepovers). Live-in care means an assignment of more than 24 hours duration (normally one or more weeks) where you are living in with the client.
Role Purpose
1. The role of the Care Worker is to perform duties and tasks to enable our clients to continue living within the comfort of their own homes in a safe and secure way.
2. The role involves supporting clients who may have a wide range of differing requirements and whose needs may range from companionship and domestic support to personal care. Care must be delivered in accordance with current best practices, according to company policies and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, and relevant regulations under the direction of the Care Manager.
Accountabilities
Deliver Companionship & Personal Care to clients
Deliver companionship and personal care according to the client personalised support plan and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
Companionship duties may include:
o Providing support and encouragement to empower the client to lead an independent lifestyle
o Providing companionship and conversation
o Shopping for the weekly essentials
o Meal preparation and cooking o Joining and assisting in hobbies or crafts o Light domestic tasks and general household duties such as cleaning, bed making, laundry and ironing
o Accompanying clients to appointments
o Driving clients to desired places
o Pet care
o Communicating with family, friends and other healthcare professionals
Personal Care may additionally involve:
o Assisting a client to get up, dressed and preparing them for the day
o Washing, bathing, showering, oral care, grooming o Toileting including assisting with the use of a commode o Continence management o Assistance with eating
o Assisting with prescribed medication
o Using manual handling equipment
o Working closely with other care professionals such as District Nurses and GPs o Assisting clients to go to bed, including undressing and washing
Be reliable and understand the necessity of not letting the client or agency down at short notice and leaving clients vulnerable.

To maintain accurate records of care on a daily basis.
To accurately complete Medication Administration Records (MAR charts) in accordance with policies and procedures where this is part of the care plan (once fully trained).
To report to your Senior Care Worker, Care Coordinator or Care Manager any changes or causes of concern in the client’s condition. Follow Policies and Procedures
Maintain awareness, understanding and adherence to Company rules and policies and procedures as set out in the Staff Handbook and in the Company policies and procedures
Treat all clients with respect and dignity and ensure they receive an equitable service.
Maintain personal and client safety through adhering to proper Health & Safety procedures.
Attend/complete mandatory training and be responsible for ensuring that mandatory training units are in date. Attend meetings as required. Other
Develop effective working relationships with colleagues – Senior Care Workers, Care Coordinators and Care Managers.
Undertake any other responsibilities and duties as appropriate to the nature and salary grade for the post.

QCF Diploma Level 2 in Heath & Social Care (or equivalent) Desirable
