Title: Creative Copywriter

Salary: £27,396 per annum

Contract Type: 18 Month Fixed Term Contract

We’re Scouts and everyone’s welcome here - all genders, races and backgrounds. Right across the UK, we help over 400,000 young people aged 4-25 gain skills for life and find their place in the world. We help them speak up, play their part and shine bright.

The Creative Copywriter:

Are you a copywriter looking for an exciting new challenge?

We are entering a period of change with our volunteer members as we improve our volunteer experience and our programme for young people. Communications will be key for taking our volunteers on that journey of understanding those changes, the benefits for them and the exciting future for Scouts.

As a copywriter, you will be joining a friendly, dynamic Communications team at an award-winning charity and provide crucial copywriting support for our volunteer journey.

Key responsibilities as our Creative Copywriter:

  • Use words and ideas to communicate the Scouts personality and its goals, making sure copy is accurate, engaging, concise and in line with house style, and tone of voice
  • Create copy for products and online system to make them user friendly and intuitive to use as instructions are clear.
  • Interpreting briefs and developing concepts for email marketing, user guides and accompanying assets.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to research, test and iterate content for digital channels, making sure content meets accessibility and SEO requirements, aligns with brand, and is retired when appropriate
  • Contribute to guiding, training, and supporting colleagues in creating content, acting as a champion for the audience and the user journey
  • As a member of the Communications department, you’ll suggest creative solutions and put forward your own ideas for engaging and innovative content

What we are looking for in our Creative Copywriter:

  • Experience in using a tone of voice and house style, a strong grasp of the English language (including advanced grammar) and plain English
  • Experience of working on user guides or explainer content would also be useful
  • Excellent copywriting skills, impeccable spelling and grammar, and strong editing and proofreading skills. You’ll need to share writing examples as part of your application
  • Strong creative and conceptual skills, with the ability to come up with ideas and produce content for digital and print contexts, in line with brand identity
  • Strong verbal communication and interviewing skills, with the ability to build rapport and relationships with an audience, sourcing case studies which can be used in different contexts, such as online, in fundraising campaigns and in the media.

What we can offer you as our Creative Copywriter:

  • Work in a way that suits you, your role and your department
  • Be proud to say you’re part of a team with Investors in People (Gold)
  • Plenty of opportunity for learning and development
  • 25 days holiday a year, plus bank holidays rising to 28 days after two years, then increasing again to 32 days after five years (and we don’t insist you go camping)
  • Four extra days to look after your family when they need you
  • Three extra days over Christmas (that’s our gift to you)

We are proud to be a family-friendly employer and offer…

  • Up to four personal days paid leave a year
  • Maternity/Paternity Leave
  • Childcare Vouchers
  • Flexible working hours
  • Study and volunteer leave

Please note that we do not accept CV’s only for this role. All application for this vacancy must include a CV and Covering Letter.

The Scouts is an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to diversity and actively seeking applicants from a wide range of backgrounds.

Strictly no agencies.
