Are you seeking to enhance your career and join us on our journey as our Senior Buyer on a Permanent basis and make your mark with a globally renowned organisation in the rail sector? This role is based at our Derby has become available due to internal progression and offers a significant opportunity for career development and growth. The Senior Buyer is part of a large team of procurement professionals delivering Alstom’s servicing contracts in a dynamic marketplace and is required to manage procurement activities with suppliers with spend of circa £200m per annum. This is a great opportunity to work for a global company within a role that has international dimensions, requiring some travel and experience in a multicultural management techniques.
What That Means Day To Day
Your role will encompass working as a member of the UK Services Procurement. The responsibility of the role is to manage procurement activities with suppliers in the Brakes Domain ensuring Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) objectives are met. Your duties will also involve to:
- Ensure all business requirements are competitively sourced in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures.
- Define commodity strategies for given scopes in line with central strategies
- Managing the Sourcing Plan and ensuring Business Awards are completed in-line with Business Requirements
- To lead Savings initiatives in given scope #LI-AL2
- To negotiate Terms & Conditions on behalf of the business.
- To bring innovation into the Supply Chain through benchmarking Suppliers/Products and introducing new Suppliers/technologies for improved QCD performance.
- To undertake regular business reviews with Suppliers driving improvements in QCD performance
- To resolve any contractual or performance issue associated with supplier agreements in a timely fashion.
- To respond to supplier and internal queries in a timely and professional manner.
- To provide full Procurement support for any identified project activities / requirements.
- To act as an ambassador for Alstom and the Procurement function both internally and externally

You’ll have experience in a similar role and a background within ideally the Rail Industry or a similar industry.
Essential Requirements
- Commercial Awareness
- Excellent Communication skills
- Experience within Rail Industry or similar
- Educated to degree level OR equivalent experience, with CIPS qualification (or be studying for CIPS)
Desirable Requirements
- Background in Business Improvement activities (Kaizen, 6 Sigma)
- Good Understanding of Contract Law
