Job description
About the role
Join us in applying the best the biotech sector has to offer to the search for new treatments for Parkinson’s. The Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech is our patient-focussed drug development arm, through which the charity (with its strategic partners) intends to invest £50m as an evergreen seed venture fund.
We invest in early stage biotech companies to create a pipeline of compelling opportunities for follow-on investment by fully private venture funds or pharma companies. For planning, portfolio management and reporting, we need to complement our scientific and drug development expertise with an individual who knows the financial and business side of biotech.
Although this role is advertised as full-time, we’ll also welcome applications from candidates who would like to work on a part-time basis (minimum 3 days per week). Please include this in your supporting statement.
What you’ll do:
You’ll work with our small in-house team to manage our growing portfolio of drug discovery and development investments. We need you to help us apply best practices from the private sector to this innovative programme that puts patient benefits front and centre in all decision making.
You will be working in a team that has experience of raising capital for young biotech, managing the science and the business sides of emerging biotech companies.
What you’ll bring:
Your role will be to deepen and broaden our knowledge and provide hands-on help in our day to day work that includes environmental scanning, assessments of scientific and investment opportunities, and preparing pitches for senior management and co-funders.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience working in the financial and/or business side of the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.
Masters degree in business preferably with a focus on technology and research-intensive sectors.
Experience assessing the economics of investment opportunities portfolios that include drug discovery stage projects (for example, NPV calculations).
This is an exciting time for Parkinson’s UK and we would love you to join us!
Please apply by sending us your CV, together with a detailed supporting statement which will fully demonstrate how you meet all the criteria of the role, as stated in the "What you'll bring" section of the job description.
As well as flexible working hours, this role is offered on a flexible contract giving you the opportunity to also work from home three days a week. You’ll be required to cover your own travel expenses to the office.
We are operating rolling recruitment for this vacancy and reviewing applications as they are received. We reserve the right to close this vacancy when we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
