We are looking for a full time permanent, suitably experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic and caring Biomedical Scientist at Senior level (Band 7).

Applicants must be HCPC registered with extensive experience as a Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) or above, in a busy ISO 15189 accredited laboratory and ideally possess an MSc or equivalent in Microbiology. Postgraduate qualifications in appropriate scientific, quality, H&S, training or management subjects at Level 7 to the value of 60 credits will be considered, as wouldequivalence in experience.If all you have is a wealth of experience then we would love to hear from you. This post has arisen due to a vacancy in the Microbiology section of the service encompassing the ever growing molecular methodology and scope. We have an increasing virology and serology service too, therefore, we are looking for a person who is keen to work across the different areas, increasing their skills to continue with our ambitious repatriation and expansion plans, delivering and implementing new services. Even if you do not have experience in all these areas but are hungry for a challenge we would still love to hear from you.
East Kent Microbiology Service is centralised at the William Harvey site and is a Specialist Clinical Virology laboratory as well as a member of the UK Clinical Mycology Network, holding Specialist Mycology Service. The service is clinically led by 5 highly experienced Consultant Microbiologists and we also have an expanding team of Clinical Scientists.
The Microbiology department processes in excess of 600 thousand tests per year, within a 4-million-pound budget. We have an extensive repertoire and scope of practice with much of the latest high-quality innovation and technology, for instance Mass Spec MS Prime, Biofire film array, 2 Elite Ingenius molecular platforms, 2 Alinity M molecular platform, Serosep EntericBio PCR, Luminex respiratory PCR, Biomek i5 robotic extraction platform, 2 Liaison XLs, IQ Sprints, Virtuo automated blood culture platforms on 2 hospital sites, Beckman Coulter Microscan (broth dilution) for AST and Autoplak automation for plate inoculation. We are also busy expanding our Mycology service having recently introduced the Galactomannan test to accompany our anti-fungal susceptibility testing. We are also committed to a proactive repatriation plan and we offer our services to neighbouring Trusts.

We are a fully ISO 15189 accredited service and are recognised by the “IBMS” and the “National School for Healthcare Science” for training.
We are a dynamic team currently training Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Clinical Scientists, Senior and Consultant clinical scientists, Senior Clinical Fellows and apprentices at several levels.
