Senior Analyst – Fraud Decisioning & Insights

This role will align to our Fraud Decisioning & Insights team within UK Fraud who are responsible for the day to management of fraud across the business, ensuring that our fraud detection systems are fully optimised to detect fraud against the HSBC UK or its customers.
Where fraud occurs, the Decisioning & Insights team are also responsible for understanding the root cause of any fraud attack, identifying any control weaknesses or failures and escalating these to the appropriate control owner and the Fraud Control Design team.
In this role, your responsibilities will be to:
- Perform in-depth analysis of fraud patterns then develop and implement enhanced strategies within our fraud detection systems across one of the three core fraud typologies i.e. Card, Payments or Lending/First Party fraud;
- Ongoing monitoring of the fraud detection systems to ensure that they are performing optimally and in line with appetite;
- Assist with the management of flash fraud attacks;
- Interpret and manipulate large data sets to extract trends and identify issues and risk;
- Undertake detailed root cause analysis to identify control and/or process/procedure failings that are driving fraud attacks, escalating to the process/control owner and the Fraud Control Design team to ensure that any required changes can be developed and implemented;
- Work closely with the operational teams to ensure that any fraud alerts generated have an appropriate treatment strategy dependent upon the risk identified;
- Provide regular feedback to the Fraud Operations teams where alerts have been released incorrectly leading to a successful fraud.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Proven ability of working within an existing Fraud Management, Fraud Operations or Fraud Analytics function;
- Detailed knowledge of card, payment and account opening processes is critical;
- Ideally have experience of working with Fraud Detection systems such as, SAS EFM, Falcon, Biocatch, Hunter and Threatmetrix;
- Ideally have knowledge of using, calibrating and optimising fraud detection tools;
- Knowledge and/or work experience in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or any other quantitative discipline;
- Experience in undertaking detailed root cause analysis into loss events
The base location for this role is Birmingham and is a hybrid role.
