We are looking to appoint a Senior Administrator to support in all areas of Health, Safety and Facilities within the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our friendly, inclusive, and supportive team who are committed to the smooth and efficient running of the school.

Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.

Your role is varied, and you’ll be liaising with a wide range of people across the university as well as external visitors. You will be the primary point of contact for H&S matters providing advice and guidance. You will take responsibility for the coordination and undertaking of risk assessments, H&S inductions and ensuring all school staff remain up to date with mandatory compliance training e.g. Fire Safety. You will organise and co-ordinate facilities projects such as office moves and renovations and be responsible for the schools asset inventory. You will work closely with the other Senior Administrators to ensure the School Office runs smoothly and provide line management to the Operations, Facilities and Health and Safety Administrator.

You’ll be a flexible supportive team player who can work to tight deadlines and prioritise conflicting tasks. You will have experience in establishing new administration systems and procedures alongside managing resources. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are key. You’ll be organised and have the ability to work under your own initiative and judgement. It would be advantageous to have an awareness of H&S principles, although this is not a necessity as full training will be provided.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract available until 23/01/2024. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

At the University of Nottingham, we are committed to providing generous employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential, for further information and detail on benefits, click here.
