Service Area: Education and Partnerships
Directorate: Children’s Services
Salary: £26,836 - £28,345
Hours: 37 hours per week, term time only
Contractual Status: Fixed term for 24 months
This is a great opportunity for two people to join our amazing teams and improve outcomes for children right across Middlesbrough!
These are new posts designed to complement the existing work of our well-established Inclusion Teams, focusing particularly on children with Education Health and Care Plans. There are two posts, one to be based with the Early Years/Primary Inclusion Team and one with the Secondary/Post 16 Inclusion Team.
The job of an Inclusion Officer is to give information, advice, and guidance to staff in schools and other educational settings and work with a wide range of professionals and organisations to help them to meet children’s individual needs, promote inclusion and prevent exclusions.
The teams are currently based at the Community Learning Centre on the Acklam Grange School site, but the job can involve visits to schools and settings across Middlesbrough so you will need to have independent transport (appropriate mileage costs are paid). The inclusion teams follow a hybrid working model, spending some time working from home, time in the office and some time in schools and settings.
The successful candidates will need to demonstrate:
Knowledge & experience of supporting children with special educational needs.
Good understanding of how children and young people learn and strategies to support inclusive learning and well-being.
Knowledge of relevant legislation including the SEND Code of Practice.
The ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and the confidence to advise and coach others to overcome barriers to successful inclusion.
The ability to organise their own time and prioritise tasks.
Flexibility, positive energy, a solution-focused approach & resilience.
Good IT skills and excellent communication skills.
A commitment to working with children whose needs may not currently be being met in mainstream and a desire to support them, their families and those who work with them.
These are new posts as we are developing our highly successful Inclusion & Outreach Teams to offer more specific support to children and young people with EHCPs. We always offer excellent training and support.
The above posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
