Who we are:

We are Ohana Centre, and we are based in Fulham Road, Chelsea, London. Ohana is the only Early Year Intervention Centre in the UK with a holistic service where we combine a therapeutic and educational approach with an inclusive SEND Nursery and a Therapy Centre. We specialise in autism and our team works in a multidisciplinary way. The therapist and nursery team work together to support child development, specifically targeting the areas where children with autism may need support with social communication, joint attention, motor skills and sensory issues.

The Nursery is open for 48 weeks of the year, and is open from 8am to 4pm. The centre closed dates at Christmas (2 weeks) and in the summer (1 week) with five additional inset days.

We are looking for a dedicated, friendly, and compassionate Level2 or Level 3 qualified Nursery Practitioner to come on board at this exciting time and help us to continue to grow our Nursery into a world-class centre dedicated to supporting the needs of its children. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience in inclusion and supporting children with SEND, with access to exceptional support and training from our in-house therapy team and leadership team.

The ideal candidate will be someone who would welcome the opportunity to build on their current experience as a Nursery Practitioner who is passionate about developing and providing high-quality support for children with SEND and their families.

Job Requirements

  • A child-centred approach to teaching using creative and exciting methods to engage and stimulate.
  • Liaising with parents, carers, and therapists on all aspects of the child's care and development.
  • Liaising with on-site and external therapists and other health/social care professionals to ensure children reach their full potential.
  • Use the EYFS framework to underpin observation, assessment, and planning and plan the next steps in each goal/targeted area.
  • With the support of the SENCO, reviewing therapy reports/Education, Health, and Care plan to inform your planning and support for key children. If you do not have experience or you are not interested in this part of the role we can adapt the this part of the role for you.
  • Creating and monitoring a range of play-based learning activities as part of Ohana Early Years curriculum to deliver to the children in small groups or independently.
  • Being a motivated team player but should also have the ability to work on your initiative to develop or suggest new programmes where you think they are needed and will add value.
  • To support children in daily activities such as eating, dressing, hygiene, and free play.

Essential requirements

  • A whole and recognised level 3 or level 2 or above qualification in early years or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience of using the EYFS framework to underpin observation, assessment, and planning
  • Passion for working with SEND children.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills.

Desired requirements

  • Critical Thinking / Problem-Solving.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and how this is monitored in a nursery setting.
  • Special need experience is desirable but not required as we will provide CPD and practical training with the support of the Nursery Manager and the therapy team.

Working hours and leave:

  • 28 days annual leave + Bank Holidays.
  • As our children leave the nursery at 4 pm every day, you have an hour of dedicated time to catch up on admin, supervision, training, attend meetings or do whatever else is needed (4 – 5 pm). Nursery meetings will also take place during this time as we value your well-being and want you to be able to leave on time.

Training and professional development:

  • Fully funding a Nursery Practitioner training course to attain their Level 3 qualification.
