About the job

Job summary

As an important part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Defence Intelligence (DI) provides intelligence analysis, specialist outputs and advice that supports decision making across government. At the heart of DI, is the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI).

Everything happens somewhere. NCGI produces intelligence that is referenced in time and space to help decision makers to understand, plan, navigate, and target. What we do is help decision makers to understand what is going on.

We are the primary provider of geospatial intelligence advice and expertise, comprising imagery intelligence, geospatial analysis, geospatial services, foundation data and military mapping and, in partnership with the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and the Meteorological Office, assured data for safety of navigation. We are a national capability, recognisably operating alongside other national intelligence agencies and are the UK’s primary interface for international geospatial intelligence partners.

You may think you need to be an analyst or have an intelligence background to work for NCGI; this is not true. There is a wide range of exciting roles available. Without our highly dedicated teams of enabling staff, such as IT support, finance, security, and facilities management, our critical outputs would just not be possible. We employ many Civil servants who play a pivotal role in Defence,

nationally and internationally, and we are proud to be part of a diverse, forward thinking, broad organisation.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the RAF Wyton security team as a vetting Security Assistant. The role is vital in ensuring station staff and military reservists have the relevant clearances for them to undertake their duties. The role will deal with all vetting responsibilities, providing advice and guidance as necessary.

The successful candidate will work within the security section, engaging, and building relationships with stakeholders and other organisations across RAF Wyton, other locations, and government departments. You will assist with all new staff starters to provide a smooth transition into RAF Wyton.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

You will be responsible for dealing with station staff, military reservists, and contractors for vetting requirements. Duties will include, but not limited to:

  • Checking of clearances.
  • Commencement of relevant clearances acting as vetting sponsor for station staff, including contractors and military reservists.
  • Maintaining vetting databases.
  • Collaborate and communicate with Pathfinder vetting and passes and permits for vetting updates.
  • Work with the reservist’s liaison WO officer for reservists tasking.
  • Corresponding, normally daily, with other organisations.
  • Ensuring all data is dealt with in line with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

In Defence Intelligence (DI) our people solve problems, create understanding and give perspective to the diverse and complex Defence threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. Together our civilians and military personnel inform decision making in Defence, manage complex finance programmes and develop new technology.

In DI we believe your unique experiences, view and understanding of the world could provide a vital perspective and contribution to our work. We recognise that great minds do not think alike and are striving to increase our diversity representation at all levels. As an equal opportunities employer we hire, train and promote people based on merit and inspire to create an inclusive workplace free of discrimination. We also offer flexible working arrangements such as flexi-time, job share and compressed hours.
