About the role

The Security Department is a large and complex department at the Airport, undertaking a critical role in protecting its customers and staff, aircraft and premises from harm.

The department is integral to the efficient operation of the Airport, delivering regulated security screening processes that allow people, baggage and supplies to enter the Security Restricted Areas of the Airport.

In addition, the Security Department provide a range of other physical security functions to ensure everyone’s safety and security. The security function is dynamic and comprehensive, requiring careful planning and deployment of resource to ensure effective, efficient operations with resilience and flexibility to adapt to changing demands.

The Next Generation Security Checkpoint (NGSC) is a major security and infrastructure project being undertaken by the Airport and is expected to complete by early 2024.

In addition to delivering a major refurbishment project to our passenger screening area that will greatly improve aesthetics, we will be introducing new screening equipment, including Computerised Tomography (CT) X-ray machines capable of identifying advanced explosive threats in cabin bags, and the most up do date body scanners able to identify security threats concealed on a person. In advance of these major changes the Airport is increasing the size of the Security Department, recruiting additional Security Officers to operate the NGSC, whilst also delivering the broader security function.

Duties and responsibilities are not limited to but will include;

Operational Performance

• To be fully accountable for the effective delivery of security operations, with direct line management of Security Duty Managers.
• To be accountable for the development of security team resource and rosters, and implementation of an effective and efficient operational plan to ensure excellent levels of compliance and queue performance to agreed KPIs.
• To be accountable for security performance targets by ensuring that the Security Duty Managers, Team Leaders and officers are fully equipped and competent to deliver smooth and optimal lane performance, aligned to passenger volume and business needs.
• Supporting the delivery of a fully compliant security operation through effective engagement with the Training and Compliance Manager and Security Manager.

Passenger Experience

• Develop a strong customer service culture within the team by encouraging positive, friendly engagement with passengers, and developing new and utilising established customer service development tools.
• Take ownership for the timely, positive and effective response to customer feedback, investigating complaints and implementing appropriate actions for improvement as necessary.

Leadership

• Accountable for providing inspirational leadership, coaching and motivation to Security Duty Managers, Team Leaders and Security Officers.
• Involvement in the recruitment of team members and responsible for the integration of new members and their induction into the security team. To identify talent and develop any top performing team members through appropriate department and HR channels.
• Act as a role model in terms of knowledge and understanding of each individual task the team undertake, and the security function and its objectives more broadly across the Airport.

Corporate Responsibility

• Ensure security operations are delivered according to budget.
• To identify and escalate any concerns or risks affecting security operations.

Compliance and Health and Safety

• Promote compliant health, safety and environmental behaviour throughout all aspects of terminal based operations.
• Ensure that all systems and procedures introduced by the Company are effectively implemented, documented and adhered to.
• Undertake investigations in line with Company policies and requirements as required.
