Mitie has a great opportunity for a Security Operations Manager to join the Total Security Management Team working in Partnership with Sainsbury's.

The successful candidate will manage the following areas: Manchester, Liverpool and Stoke.

Job Overview

To deliver results for their identified area that meets or exceeds the budget and service delivery requirements through full responsibility and accountability for:

  • Leadership and strategic direction ranging from planning to motivational and promotional activities expanding the value of security and loss prevention, acting as an ambassador for the business interests of the company and client
  • Organise and maintain base and live rosters ensuring the workforce management system is kept up to date
  • To ensure all Officers in the logistics portfolio fully understand and comply with, all aspects of Mitie Policy relevant to legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure any pay queries are dealt with immediately and efficiently
  • Retain detailed and accurate personnel records which will include but will not be limited to, return to work forms, absence records, welfare forms, uniform requests, holiday requests, file notes, appraisals, training, licensing and exit interviews
  • To co-ordinate Team Leader / Officers evaluations and annual reviews and provide a record of all appraisals
  • Report any deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health, safety and environment, prioritizing appropriately in line with the severity of the potential risk
  • Liaise with the on-site management team within your portfolio of depots, attending all relevant meetings and implementing any actions agreed within recognised SLA's and appropriate timescales
  • Support the operational management teams to identify the key areas around loss and implement long lasting and sustainable measures removing any risk that will erode profitability utilising key support functions
  • Working knowledge of the disciplinary progression and consequences in line with the company's HR policies
  • Carry out constructive, fair and firm disciplinary procedures which will include but not be limited to, grievance, investigations, disciplinary, dismissal and tribunals
  • To maintain and review accurate Assignment Instructions and complete regular reviews to ensure officers understanding and compliance

  • Ensuring behaviours and situations that endanger the health and safety and wellbeing of colleagues, contractors and fellow officers are identified and rectified in a timely manner in line with company policies
  • Supporting Sainsbury and Mitie LiveSafe/QHSE initiatives and compliance with policy and legislation
  • The reporting and investigation of incidents and the identification of their causes. Ensure corrective actions are implemented and retain for audit purposes
  • Ensuring all Mitie obligations relating to Officer Welfare, Health and Safety and Duty of Care are observed at all times
  • Ensure all contractual requirements, SLA's and KPI's are met or exceeded and are in keeping with the client's expectation
  • Ensuring all vacancies are advertised with the appropriate agencies and maintain establishment to deliver the coverage KPI specified by the client
  • Managing recruitment and succession planning to ensure that the logistics portfolio has the capability to deliver consistent high levels of service
  • Undertake the roles and responsibilities of the duty manager by participating in the rotation of the Sainsbury's weekend working schedule
  • To build, lead, retain and support in the development of your security team who believe and demonstrate through their work that Mitie is different to other Security service providers.
  • Ensure adequate and appropriate training, advice and support is provided to make the security team successful. This includes ensuring knowledge and use of key systems, tools and awareness of policies; undertaking regular appraisals; providing open feedback on progress and career development and use of sanctions for underperformance
  • Ensure the understanding, demonstration and implementation of the Mitie values and bring to life – “The exceptional, Every day”
  • Ensure the delivery of Mitie company induction, initial assessment and comprehensive logistics S.T.A.R.S. training of all newly appointed security officers takes place in their allocated place(s) of work
  • To ensure all team leaders and officers take part in the contracts evaluation process to support the onward development of their roles and continued ongoing personnel progression
  • To undertake duties associated with void properties inclusive of site inspections and audits within a designated area
  • Take active steps to maintain communication and recognise achievement and develop the Mitie Community
  • Manage a determined number of Team Leaders / Security Officers as defined by the contract structure
  • That all direct reports take part in a structured 121 process as defined by the contract

Person Specification

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Confident and professional working approach and appearance
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high quality customer service
  • Good understanding of SLA's and implementing Action plans
  • Ability to create, build and deliver business improvement plans
  • Ability to create and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally with all stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Hold and maintain a current frontline SIA licence (training may be provided for the right applicant)
  • Solid understanding of physical security technology including access control, CCTV and alarms
  • Possess analytical, statistical and numeracy skills with attention to detail and acute observation and listening ability
  • Comfortable interpreting numbers and actively using data to advise on business improvements
  • Able to Identify and investigate issues of internal and external theft, possessing the confidence to challenge and review current practices and implementing recommendations to protect the business
  • Proven record of interviewing, selecting and screening applicants in line with required BS7858 standards
  • A Full UK Driving licence (max 6 points)
  • The ability to conduct both internal and external investigations to a successful and professional conclusion
  • Flexible approach to working hours and the willingness to travel
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Resilient and tenacious with a ‘can do' approach
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Literate, numerate and IT skills to medium level user
  • Be willing to work towards, if not already held, a management apprenticeship as is deemed appropriate for personnel development
