Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Security Officer / Traffic Marshall on a full-time, term-time, permanent basis.
The primary responsibility of the Security Officer / Traffic Marshall is to be one of the first points of contact for visitors, staff and pupils visiting Brighton College, therefore, excellent communication skills whilst being able to manage situations in a calm manner are essential.
Scope of the role:
- To provide Security / Concierge Front of House presence on College properties.
- To be proactive regarding the security of the College, Prep School, and offsite premises.
- To be alert for possible intruders.
- To deal with pupils, staff, governors and visitors in a calm, friendly and helpful manner.
- To carry out School crossing patrol duties daily as required.
Some of the principal tasks and responsibilities:
- Unlock and secure exits, entrances and buildings on College premises at designated times.
- Random patrol of College grounds and buildings.
- Respond to alarms (fire, burglar etc.).
- Respond to emergency calls from staff, pupils and the Health Centre.
- Man the Security Lodge when not required elsewhere.
- Liaise with organisers of events being held during duty shift. This will include external clients as well as College staff and pupils.
- Ensuring the safety and security of pupils, staff and governors on campus.
- Ensuring the safety and security of visitors to the College.
- Monitoring of traffic and traffic control at specified times, including covering Lollipop duties daily for approx. 2 hours. (full training available and approved clothing provided).
- Ability to interact with all types of people with courtesy and tact.
- Basic investigation and report writing.
- To respond to any other reasonable management request.

Safeguarding responsibilities:
- This role will involve daily contact with pupils, and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
- All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
Hours of work:
- The role is term-time (35 weeks), 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- The hours will be 11:00-19:30, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day.
- Overtime is available on occasion.
- Support with additional parking duties may be required during term-time for large events and sports fixtures at Jubilee ground.
- Extra pay will be awarded for these hours, if worked.
Holidays:
- Holiday pay is included in the salary for this role.
Holidays should be taken outside of your working weeks.
