The University’s Estates and Facilities team of over 200 people provide everything needed to design, equip, run, maintain, manage and operate our buildings. The Security Officer is a critical role in the Estates and Facilities team. The Estates and Facilities team offers a range of services including Estates Management and Development, Maintenance, Car Parking, Cleaning, Portering and Security. The Security Officer works within a multi-disciplinary team of Portering and Security services reporting to a Senior Facilities and Security Technician and managed overall by a Facilities and Security Services Manager. The Facilities and Security Services team work across the full campus and student residences covering a range of buildings including offices, commercial outlets, workshops, laboratories and lecture theatres. Duties include; preventing all types of crime, patrolling the campus, staffing the control room and utilising CCTV to prevent and reduce crime, providing assistance with portering services, carrying out basic maintenance and cleaning services; supporting both their own team and also the wider Estates team; ensuring buildings and property are secured, providing good customer care; car parking assistance and enforcement; helping to ensure efficiency of service and ensuring health and safety guidelines are met. The post holder will be responsible to the Senior Facilities and Security Technician. Working the weekend shift of Saturday and Sunday, undertake general Security Officer duties including but not limited to, scheduled campus patrols, monitoring CCTV, staffing the security control room (normally for 2 hour periods), supporting the operation and management of the ANPR car parking system, responding to the car park intercom system, producing reports in accordance with defined standards, responding to fire alarm activations, fire safety checks, supporting cleaning, post and portering operations, cash float exchange, ensuring buildings are locked/unlocked, setting/disarming intruder alarm systems, dealing with ‘security’ incidents and supporting the waste management strategy. The post holder must hold a full UK car driving licence. The post holder will provide a customer focused service, approach and attitude, in all circumstances, including situations where confrontation occurs. Assisting in the delivery of new initiatives to deliver business improvements supporting the team to deliver an agile, efficient, proactive and flexible service. The working pattern is 7am – 7pm Saturday and Sunday. Flexibility with regards to hours of work to support business needs is required and there may be an opportunity for additional hours.
