The Torngat Mountains National Park - an Inuit Homeland, is one of the last untamed, unspoiled places left on earth. Comprised of 9,700 square kilometers of spectacular wilderness, the Park stretches north from Saglek Fjord to the northern tip of Labrador, and westward from the Atlantic seacoast to the Québec border. It’s a land of mountains, polar bears, small glaciers, and caribou, where the Inuit hunt, fish, and travel as their ancestors did.

Air Borealis is currently seeking Bear Guards on a fixed term basis in the Torngats, NL.

Job Duties:

  • Accompany guests and staff when required outside the perimeter of the Torngat Camp as well as any excursions for protection
  • Operate speedboats and zodiacs as required for camp duties
  • Accompany guests on long liners, hikes; excursions, etc. for the purpose of bear monitoring as well as explaining the traditional knowledge of the area
  • Prepare, when requested, to travel overnight and on hiking excursions as required for the safety of clients
  • Provide traditional knowledge of the land and Inuit culture through interactions with staff and tourists
  • Ensure everyone is inside perimeter prior to arming the fence as part of the overall Torngat Camp security
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bear Wise Training certificate
  • Valid Fire Arm’s Certificate
  • Must own/have access to a bolt action, pump action or lever action rifle in minimum calibre of .243
  • WHMIS and Basic First Aid certificates
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Torngat Camp system, operations, and maintenance an asset
  • Ability to manage under pressure and to balance multiple priorities
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and experience in the sub‐arctic preferred.
