About the Role
You will manage and lead your team and ensure that the site is protected at all times and will be expected to coordinate and oversee the undertaking of overt, high-profile security patrols during both day and night; you will ensure that your team frequently check windows, doors, gates and fences as well as other technical security measures to ensure they are secure and working effectively.
You will be the eyes and ears of the Head of Security and the Security Operations Manager around the site, identifying and reporting security issues, vulnerabilities and any other suspicious activity and you will ensure that these are addressed in a timely manner. You will oversee your team in undertaking control of entry duties at the site access control points and will carry out personnel and vehicle searches of employees and visitors entering and leaving the site; in doing so, you and your team will guard against the theft of company property and ensure that no prohibited items are brought onto site.
You will form part of the site Crisis Response Team and will be required to respond to and deal with a wide variety of security related matters and incidents; you will be the Operational Commander, acting as the liaison between your team on the ground, the emergency service responders and LM Senior Leadership. You will be required to effectively brief your team on what is expected of them, often using your own initiative and responding to a dynamic, changing environment; you will be expected to give periodic updates and briefings at multiple levels across the business and to external agencies. You will need to be physically and emotionally robust in dealing with such occurrences and will be expected to use your initiative as well as follow standard operating procedures.
Your core duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Leading and managing a team of security guards
- Undertake performance management and professional development with your team
- Dealing with any disciplinary or administrative matters within your team
- Oversee and manage the delivery of frequent but irregular security patrols, both internal and external including perimeter checks in all weather conditions (24/7).
- Manage the examination of doors, windows, gates and other physical barriers to determine that they are secure.
- The observation of personnel to guard against thefts of company and personal property.
- The inspection of equipment and stores to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
- The reporting of any and all security irregularities.
- The provision of access to authorised personnel to company property.
- The issue receipt and storage of security keys.
- Reacting to security incidents.
- Searching of personnel and vehicles.
- Monitoring and reacting to CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Detection system alarms.
- Front of house duties.
- Escorting of visitors and contractors.
- The provision of out of hours First Aider cover to site
Required skills, qualifications and experience
- Demonstrable experience in the provision of security at large sites within the Corporate Security, Military or Police environments.
- Must have experience in delivering a physical security service within a large complex organisation; this will include security patrolling, asset protection, control of entry, CCTV monitoring, and monitoring and reacting to intruder alarms.
- Experience of working with and leading small security guard teams is preferred
- Have experience of conducting personnel and vehicle searches.
- Be able to communicate well with a wide spectrum of people from diverse backgrounds and by multiple means, i.e. face to face, telephone, radio, email, public announcement system.
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Be able to work on own initiative and also follow set procedures
- The ability to deal with people and to remain calm under pressure.
- Be flexible in a constantly changing and dynamic work environment.
- Be physically fit and capable of spending extended periods outside in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a smart and professional appearance, ensuring a good first impression for the business.
- IT literate (in particular MS Office)
- Must have a full UK driving licence.
