Security Analyst (Internal security team)
Salary: From £39,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid - flexibility to work from home or at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Manchester and Harwell)

About the role:
The Jisc Protective Service team safeguards both the Janet Network and Internal security whilst also sharing intelligence and advising our members to keep their own networks safe. The internal security team within Jisc aims to protect Jisc’s internal systems and data, whilst supporting our colleagues and Jisc’s strategic objectives.

You will take responsibility of incident handling, threat detection and analysis, within Jisc’s internal security team and assist the Lead cyber security incident investigator with the ongoing development of security systems, helping to generate new mitigations and enhancing the internal security of Jisc to defend against future attacks more effectively.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Participate in, and support operational incident handling services when events have been detected or reported
  • Monitor and respond to security operations and infrastructure events
  • To take part in the development of incident response drills and exercises to improve processes and procedures and to define improvement to incident response metrics
  • Support internal incident response activities with the coordination of CSIRT
  • Supporting the identification and prioritisation of vulnerabilities
  • Liaise with several internal departments such as the wider Cyber security division, Janet network operations centre and the Janet service desk to detect and mitigate threats to Jisc

Key Skills and Experience:
  • Understanding of IT environments and common infrastructure including: Microsoft Stack (Azure, Active Directory), Virtualisation Platforms, Backup Systems & Cloud Platforms
  • Operational knowledge and experience of incident response
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP and other related Internet protocols
  • Working knowledge of a variety of operating systems, and a good systems administration level of experience and knowledge of at least one operating system
  • Able to communicate effectively with a range of security professionals and to simplify complex technical issues
