Post: Art Teacher Location: Birmingham Position: FT Start Date: September 2023 Salary: £25,000- £40,000 per annum We are seeking a talented and passionate Art Teacher to join our secondary school starting in September 2023. As an Art Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire creativity, develop artistic skills, and foster a love for the visual arts among our students. Responsibilities: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging art lessons that align with the school's curriculum and educational standards. Teach various art forms and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital media, while encouraging students to explore their own artistic style and expression. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, experiment with different materials, and develop their artistic abilities. Foster an appreciation for art history, cultural diversity, and con art practices through the study of different artists, art movements, and artistic concepts. Encourage students to think critically, analyse artworks, and develop their own interpretations and artistic ideas. Provide demonstrations, hands-on activities, and individualised instruction to support students' technical skills and artistic development. Incorporate art criticism and constructive feedback to help students improve their artworks and develop a reflective approach to their creative process. Utilise a variety of art materials, tools, and technologies to enhance students' understanding and exploration of different artistic mediums. Organise and curate art exhibitions, displays, and showcases to celebrate students' artwork and promote their creative achievements. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and review the art curriculum, ensuring alignment with academic standards and incorporating innovative teaching strategies. Engage in interdisciplinary projects and collaborative initiatives that integrate art with other subjects, fostering cross-curricular connections and creativity. Support students in preparing portfolios for examinations, college applications, or art competitions, providing guidance and feedback on the selection and presentation of their artwork. Foster a safe and respectful classroom environment, promoting inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and positive behaviour among students. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and progress, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student performance. Stay updated with current trends, techniques, and developments in the field of art education, attending professional development workshops or conferences as necessary. Participate in departmental meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and school-wide events, contributing to the overall educational program and fostering a sense of community. Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, specialising in Art or a related field. Proven experience teaching art at the secondary school level, demonstrating a strong knowledge of artistic techniques, art history, and creative processes. Passion for art education and the ability to inspire students' creativity, self-expression, and artistic growth. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, provide constructive feedback, and build positive relationships. Proficiency in a variety of art mediums and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art. Strong organisational skills to plan and deliver art lessons, manage art supplies, and assess student progress effectively. Knowledge of art history, con art practices, and cultural diversity to enrich students' understanding of different artistic contexts. Ability to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that values diversity, encourages collaboration, and respects individual artistic voices. Familiarity with art-related software, digital tools, or graphic design applications is desirable but not essential. Commitment to promoting creativity, critical thinking, and visual literacy skills through art education. Collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team, contributing to the development and improvement of the art department's curriculum and resources.
