Job introduction
Brighton & Hove Beach Lifeguards are Recruiting Now!
BEACH LIFEGUARD APPLICATION
Fancy a challenging and rewarding job working on the beach all summer?
Don't want a standard 9 - 5 office job?
Finishing University or College for the summer but want to stay in Brighton, earn some money and learn new skills?
Or, maybe you fancy a career change and to work with an inclusive, diverse, welcoming team.
We are currently recruiting lifeguards to work on our world famous Brighton and Hove beaches during our summer season which runs until 3rd September 2023.
About the role
With over 11 million visitors to Brighton & Hove each year, you will play a major part in keeping our beaches safe and enjoyable for all who use them.
In a typical summer season our Lifeguard & Seafront Team have responded to 134 incidents saving 40 lives and reuniting numerous missing persons – it’s fair to say no day is the same, you will face challenges and you will make the difference in keeping people safe.
What we are looking for?
A competent swimmer with the physical ability to pass a beach lifeguard course.
You are passionate about sea safety, clean beaches and customer service.
You have a knowledge and practical experience of first aid and incident management.
You are great at working in a team and have lots of enthusiasm.
You have a flexible and adaptable approach to working environments and hours.
You are happy to work outside in all weather conditions.
You have a cool head in a crisis, can think on your feet and don’t shy away from dealing with difficult situations.
You’re proactive, quick to spot potential problems and you are good at working out solutions using your own initiative.
And in return?
An inclusive, supportive and progressive team environment.
Job satisfaction of making a difference.
On the job training, learning new skills and lifesaving techniques to take with you in life.
Getting paid to be on the beach and keep fit.
Plenty of fresh air and a good night’s sleep.
If you think any of the above relates to you or have similar skill sets which could transfer then we encourage your application. For an informal chat or if you would like to find out more information on the qualifications needed then please give us a call and we will be happy to talk through the role.
Key dates:
- Closing Date: Sunday 11th June 2023 – Applications must be submitted by 23:59hrs on Sunday 11th June.
- Swim Test: Friday 16th June 2023 TBC – If your application is successful, you will be invited to a swim test where you will have to swim 400m continuously in a 25 metre pool in a time of 7 minutes 30 seconds or less, with a front-facing stroke, push start - so get training, it’s harder than you think! To give you an idea, that’s 16 lengths of local 25m swimming pools: Prince Regent & King Alfred. This swim test will take place at a pool in Brighton. Information will be sent to the candidate on the location.
- Interviews: Week commencing 19th June – If you are successful in your swim test you will be invited for an interview on one of these days. Either face to face or video interview.
- Induction: Week commencing 17th July - If you are successfully recruited then a staff induction will take place where you meet the team, enhance your training and learn about your role.
- End of Season: Sunday 3rd September 2023 - The lifeguard season closes and employment as as a lifeguard ends.
Conditional offers: As well as References, Right to Work and DBS checks - all candidates must hold a valid UK Beach Lifeguard Qualification before their start date.
Beach Lifeguard Courses are available locally and nationally - we appreciate not everyone has this qualification prior to application so please contact The Seafront Office in advance to get an understanding of what the course entails.
