Job description
This role suports the 3D digital planning/imaging and research activity of the Maxillofacial Unit Laboratory, Morriston Hospital.
The post-holder whilst providing a clinical technical service will assist with the day to day import and manipulation of various modalities of digital clinical data such as 3D CT and MRI for the creation of prostheses, stents, guides, implants and other devices working under the guidance of the Maxillofacial Prosthetists /Reconstructive Scientists within the department.
The post holder will also contribute to the ongoing research projects This will include support with, co-ordination and submission of consequent data, the completion of national and local regulatory documentation.
Whilst experience in 3D design and clinical research processes would be advantageous, full training will be provided and this post can be considered as a development post for those who wish to pursue a career within the NHS.
Coordinate the 3D surgical plans required by Head and Neck Department liaising with Techical and Clincal Staff.
Import 3D data such as CT, MRI and surface scans ready for planning.
Aid in the planning, design and manufacture of medical devices such as guides, stents and prostheses.
Participate and coordinate Maxillofacial Laboratory Research.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Clinical
1. Attend clinic and surgery session to observe and advise on cases.
2. Work closely with specialties within the Health Board who require support from the Maxillofacial Laboratory, including ENT, Burns and Plastics, Cleft service, breast service,Orthopedics and Maxillofacial.
Pre Analytical Duties
1. Telephone/email communication with staff and service users.
2. Identify suitability of data requested and ensure integrity.
3. Prioritisation of emergency & urgent requests ensuring that they are brought to attention of line manager.
4. Adheres to policies, procedures of Health Board and discipline specific
requirements, including Health & Safety.
5. Completes patient data integrity checks and patient file management in local information system in line with National and Local policies and procedures relating to patient confidentiality and data protection.
Analytical/Manipulation
1. Completes specified training to acquire the underpinning knowledge and
practical skills necessary to operate in the associated healthcare working
environment.
2. Downloads and imports variety of data from hospital IT infrastructure or
locally stored media.
3. Examines data and chooses appropriate software package for the manipulation of data and carries this out.
4. Recognizes when data integrity is compromised and alerts line manager.
5. Recognizes limits of practice and refer line manager as required
Quality Assurance
1. Completes paperwork according to EU and Health Board protocol complying with regulatory standards.
2. Supports and participates in departmental audits.
3. Participates in validation and evaluation of new equipment / software.

1. Communicates with all team members and exchanges information including complex surgical/technical plans.
2. Maintain knowledge and skills in line with continuing professional
developments and participate in annual performance review according to
Health Board policy.
3. Provide cover for fellow colleagues in the event of staff shortages
4. Communicates complex information with other staff within and outside
Health Board staff to facilitate transfer of patient image data and models
overcoming any barriers to understanding.
Education and Training/Staff Management
1. Requirement to lecture and give short presentations to staff and outside of Health Board.
2. Required to enlighten / teach students, nurses and visitors on techniques
used.
Information Resources
1. The post holder will use a range of systems within their day to day role.

Finance
1. Responsible for alerting line manager when software license renewals are due and any technical issue with programs.
2. Responsible for maintenance and servicing of highly expensive software and hardware.
3. Responsible for placing and tracking orders for highly expensive articles such as 3D models, surgical guides and implants.
