WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Santander Consumer Finance (a standalone part of the Santander Group) is one of the UK’s leading motor finance companies providing finance to a network of dealerships throughout the United Kingdom. This enables our customers throughout the country to have access to finance for the vehicles they need and desire.

We work with over 1600 dealers across the UK and have around 400,000 cars on the road with finance at any one time - that’s a lot of windscreen wipers!

You will be based at our office in Redhill, Surrey with hybrid working and if successful, you will join in September 2023.

The opportunity

Our 12 month IT Graduate Programme is a fantastic opportunity to join a newly formed team at the beginning of the journey to create and operate a local IT team that is renowned for adding quality and value to the business that it services.

You will spend a total of twelve months working in each of the distinct areas within IT, forming a view of what those areas do as well as building skills and developing themselves along the way. The successful candidate will be provided with on the job training and development as well as active hands on experience in each of the following disciplines:

Business Change – this area consists of a PMO function, co-ordinating all change (resources management, environment management and budgetary control). You will spend time with IT Project Managers, Test Managers and Business Analysts to understand how we develop new products (digitalisation) and services, as well as change existing ones (functional enhancements and software upgrades). You will gain exposure to both traditional waterfall and agile ways of working, as well as the full business change/project cycle from requirement gathering, through planning, to delivery, testing and hand over to support.

Service Delivery – Spend time working with the application support and service management. Gain exposure to the main good practice model (ITIL) and our varied systems as well as the operational and ‘business as usual’ side to the IT function.

IT Risk & Governance – Spend time understanding how the IT operation is governed in line with corporate, regulatory and good practice guidelines. Gain experience of the main IT good practice model (COBIT) and build an appreciation of how IT Risk, obsolescence and cyber security are a vital part of underpinning the success and management of an IT function.

In addition to the assigned IT periods, our graduate will:

  • Have access to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) who will take a keen interest in the assignment, ensuring that optimal value is derived for our graduate, provide an overview of the CIO role, IT Financial Management, coaching and mentoring throughout the engagement
  • Be provided with an overview of the SCUK business areas to include visiting one of our car dealership partners to fully appreciate how the our technology enables our business from the front line
  • Potential for some international travel to Spain to gain a better understanding of the wider Santander Group and to meet some of our group colleagues providing support to SCUK

What we are looking for

  • If you have or are predicted to receive a 2:2 or higher in your degree (preferably Technology related)
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, both written and oral presentation skills
  • Have a collaborative approach - team work delivers results for everyone
  • Are interested in the finance sector, specifically banking & consumer finance in an automotive industry
  • Have the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, with a keen eye for detail
  • Are able to learn and adapt – recognising changing trends and tackling the unexpected with enthusiasm
  • Demonstrate innovation and are not afraid to bring new ideas to the company
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages Word, Excel, PowerPoint
