Job description
Productive Playhouse is currently looking for native Scots/Lowland Scots speakers to serve as Language Verifiers for project-based work. This is a fully remote position (work from home) that requires a computer and reliable internet connection.
Role Description:
Duties of Language Verifiers include creating language verification tests, evaluation of language test submissions, and quality control of audio and video files. Language verifiers prepare language verification tests following detailed instructions provided at the time of employment. The nature of the role is ongoing and project-based. The workload depends on the needs of the project. This is not a full-time position and only requires a few hours per week after an initial setup period, which will vary by project.
For our current project needs, payment is based on work completed at the following rates. All amounts are in United States Dollars (USD):
Creating a language verification test - USD $150, one-time payment: To create this test, the Language Verifier will record themselves speaking short utterances (maybe 15 seconds long, at most), in fluent, native Scots/Lowland Scots. There will be 25 utterances total. The Language Verifier will also write out an answer key of what they recorded themselves speaking, following proper grammar and punctuation rules in Scots. They will also translate the test instructions into Scots.
Audio Quality Control - USD $1 per link reviewed (2,043 video links needing reivew): Our client has sent us video links, and we need a Scots Language Verifier to verify that the videos are in the target language of Lowland Scots. The Language Verifier does not need to watch the videos in their entirety, they just need to listen to 4-5 second of audio every couple of minutes, and can skip around in the videos.
Scots Language Verification Test Review - USD $15 per review: This is an as-needed task, and is not immediately needed at this time. When we receive a Lowland Scots transcription or translation project, we will need to hire a team of Scots speakers for these projects. When a candidate applies to be a part of the team, they will be sent the Scots language verification test that was created by the Language Verifier. The Language Verifier would review the tests, looking for quality and accuracy and would determine if the candidate would be a good fit for the Scots team.
Our ideal candidate will be able to work with our English-speaking team, and is also tech-savvy, and has experience using Google products (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs).
