Job Specification
We offer:
- Vibrant and dynamic employment – we are a highly specialised, growth company operating in a critical sector of the economy – our future is strong and exciting
- Opportunities to develop your skills and yourself – our rapid growth brings greater opportunities for you to learn and grow faster!
- A great team where we all support each other – enjoy your work – after all you spend about a third of your time here!
Our Company: “We are a dynamic, fast-growing company, with an enviable reputation for leading edge science, offering contract research services to some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, solving what were believed to be unsolvable scientific challenges”.
We believe in our ability to relentlessly push forward the boundaries of scientific excellence, delivering solutions for our clients, always operating ethically and with integrity. We take pride in our professionalism and commitment to always deliver our very best work.
We are based in Hertfordshire, in the town of Hoddesdon. The Hoddesdon campus, consisting of several purpose built scientific and administrative buildings together with a purpose built conference area has more than 5,000m2 of premier R&D space and houses an established Process Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Drug Discovery team, and a newly formed Formulation Development department. The Hoddesdon site has state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard facilities for the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), formulation development and process chemistry. We offer our employees a highly supportive team-work environment, enabling them to develop and liberate their true potential.
PHARMARON HODDESDON PROCESS CHEMISTRY
The UK-based Process Chemistry team builds on a legacy of big-pharma experience and capability, significantly enhanced through integration with Pharmaron’s organization and capacity in China. The group provides premium R&D services in small-molecule CMC to leading pharmaceutical and biotech clients from the US, UK, and mainland Europe.
We were established in 2017, following Pharmaron’s acquisition of the Hoddesdon site from MSD. The leadership team and most of the senior chemists are ex-MSD, and bring decades of experience in the field to working with our partners to manufacture API.
With significant expansion of the group underway, we are looking for talented experienced chemists to join our team.
PHARMARON HODDESDON SITE
The Hoddesdon facilities were built and equipped to the highest big-pharma specifications. These include expanded and brand-new chemistry labs, a modern and state-of-the-art pilot plant, and full integration with Analytical, Material Sciences, and Formulation groups located on the same campus.
Since acquiring the site, Pharmaron has made further massive investments in all departments: more than tripling our lab space, adding new capabilities and equipment, and increasing and modernizing our plant capacity. Fuelled by the high demand for our services and excellent reputation, Hoddesdon is poised for sustained expansion over the next decade. This includes headcount growth in Process Chemistry over the last four years and plans to reach more in the next 2 – 3 years.
PROCESS CHEMISTRY –WHAT WE DO
API Route Design
Our group specializes in designing innovative and scalable routes to API, tailored to our clients’ needs and the asset’s phase of development. We pride ourselves on solving problems that are too complex for other CROs to handle and thrive on coming up with bold solutions to challenging transformations.
Process Development
One of our mantras is “Knowledge, not just data”, and we use our in-depth understanding of each reaction to build safe, robust, and sustainable processes. We have all the tools in-house, including DoE, high-throughput experimentation, and PAT, to ensure each step of a route will operate successfully on any scale it’s needed.
GLP and GMP Manufacture
We have a unique, “chemist-led” operating model, with scale-up performed directly by the same person that developed the process. This means the knowledge stays with the batch as it moves from lab to plant, and allows us to move quickly from grams to kilos. It also makes better process chemists, as full immersion in the pilot plant provides hands-on experience that cannot be learned any other way.
JOB SUMMARY
The Process Chemistry team in the UK provides leading R&D, GMP and API services to our international clients. Having recently undergone a period of growth and expansion with the construction of a new laboratory containing 40 fumehoods, we are looking for a number of Scientists and Senior Scientists with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry to join our expanding team.
Your role will be primarily in designing and developing novel synthetic routes to pharmaceutical APIs in the laboratory and implementing the processes at kilogram-scale in our state-of-the-art pilot plant facility.
- We offer a competitive salary and a progressive and a comprehensive suite of employee benefits
- We offer state of the art working environment in our modern Hoddesdon site
