NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS, collecting and processing nearly 2 million blood donations a year and delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services relating to the transfusion of blood, and transplantation of stem cells, tissues and organs. The Microbiology Services Laboratory (MSL) provides a centralised and diverse microbiological service that is essential to the operation of NHSBT. In this role youll manage the day-to-day activities of laboratory work for the BTRU on Genomics to Enhance Microbial Screening (BTRU-GEMS) programme to enhance the services provided by MSL. You will be taking responsibility for the standard of the work, the quality of the results produced and the workload of the staff working in that section. This will involve performing evaluations, validations, and verifications on new assays and quality control material under the Control of Change process. You will also authorise reports generated from all sections within Virology. As part of the role you will work with clinical colleagues and service users within the organisation and with external stakeholders to improve and develop the testing services offered.
