Role Summary
An essential component of Pfizer at Sandwich, our Pharmaceutical Sciences function supports Pfizer’s early to late-stage portfolio, translating new chemical entities into commercial drug products. Pharmaceutical Sciences is a fully integrated Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls capability that encompasses state of the art active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis and drug product design as well as a cGMP manufacturing and clinical trials supply chain. Within Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Drug Product Design (DPD) department utilises expertise in formulation design and process understanding, predictive science, materials science and biopharmaceutics to deliver new medicines.
We are seeking a Scientist to work in a team environment, under supervision of a team leader, engaged in the design, development, and characterisation of oral and parenteral pharmaceutical dosage forms.
You will predominantly be involved in a laboratory and pilot plant ‘hands-on’ role, working in DPD on assigned drug product and technology projects.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will
- Be responsible for planning, generating, and delivering high quality scientific experimentation and data to define the formulation and manufacturing process of parenteral and oral liquid and solid dosage forms,
- Perform hands-on laboratory experiments using small scale manufacturing technologies, such as solution compounding, lyophilization, mixing, tableting and analytical techniques such as visual and chromatographic assessment,
- Interpret scientific data to derive clear conclusions and contribute to the direction for future work,
- Maintain high quality documentation of all activities in electronic notebooks and reports as required,
- Support the delivery of department goals through effective communication at project meetings,
- Develop and maintain a contemporary in-depth understanding of the science and technology of pharmaceutical dosage forms together with a regulatory awareness and applying this knowledge to development of assigned drug candidates.
Basic Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent qualification) in pharmaceutical or allied scientific discipline.
- Demonstrable, proven, practical experience in a pharmaceutical setting, ideally in the development of parenteral dosage forms, which may include general laboratory procedures, drug product characterisation techniques, formulation development and manufacturing techniques.
