You will be working directly with HydRegen’s Chief Scientific Officer and R&D team to expand our biocatalyst and chemical synthesis capabilities. You will be responsible for advancement and testing of our biotechnology products, with your role quickly expanding to include working on customer projects and developing products and processes for their specific needs. This will primarily be a lab-based role, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within the team.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct laboratory experiments on immobilised biocatalyst systems for hydrogenation reactions.
  • Take responsibility for detailed studies into biocatalyst stability, activity and reproducibility.
  • Take part in research within the team on next-generation products and services.
  • Play a part in forming a productive and supportive work culture within the company.
  • Carry out data analysis, preparation of reports and other written material.
  • May be required to travel for conferences or customer / partner meetings.

Criteria

Essential

  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related field. Ideally we are looking for someone with skills in catalysis (metal, enzymes or both).
  • Hands-on experience using catalysis and/or organic synthetic methods to generate chemical products.
  • Knowledge of compound characterisation and methods for product analysis (HPLC, GC, TLC, NMR, mass spectroscopy, or FTIR).
  • At least one year experience working in a chemistry lab.
  • Evidence that you are a passionate and self-motivated researcher, committed to learning new skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated experience of effectively working in a team.
  • Experience of keeping detailed lab records.

Desirable

  • Research experience in biocatalysis and/or hydrogenation catalysis; knowledge and/or experience with flow chemistry is a plus.
  • Experience developing methods for generating compound libraries and ability to characterise a range of organic chemicals.
  • Passion for sustainability.
  • Experience in industry labs.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the pharmaceutical and/or specialty chemical sectors. Awareness of confidentiality and IP sensitivity.

Opportunity and culture

Our work is mission-focused, and collaborative. Our commitment to working with respect, honesty and transparency at all levels means we can provide a safe and exciting workplace.

We are committed to supporting individual professional development plans for all of our colleagues and use regular progress meetings to ensure that we are seeking relevant opportunities for your personal growth. This may include (but is not limited to) taking on additional responsibilities in the company, attending targeted training events or presenting at conferences. The ideal candidate will be willing to play a part in forming a productive and supportive work culture within the company.
