Job description
Marchwood Scientific Services, a member of the Cawood Scientific Group, was established in 1998 and performs a range of specialist analytical testing services to customers operating in the Environmental, Industrial and Agricultural Sectors from its three laboratories based in the South and North of England.
Marchwood Scientific are currently looking for a Scientist to join their Laboratory on a full-time permanent basis based on their site in Marchwood, Southampton.
The role:
The Scientist role is principally responsible for the analysis of samples within the laboratory, in a safe manner and in accordance with the requirements of the Quality Systems. The position also requires the post holder to help with training, equipment maintenance, health & safety and maintaining communication channels with others within the department, as well as others, as required.
Responsibilities:
Analytical Testing
- Performing a range of analytical testing as required by the Laboratory Manager or Team Leader to support routine operations.
- Reporting valid results on a timely basis within the guidelines of the Quality System.
- Communicating any operational problems and issues that may affect quality or service delivery to the Team Leader, and other departments.
- Involvement in Method Development
- To assist method development, validation and troubleshooting activities in accordance to defined procedures.
- Maintenance of Analytical Equipment
- Ensuring equipment is maintained as in accordance with procedures.
- Taking a proactive role in the maintenance, breakdown, and repair of equipment.
- Communicating equipment maintenance, breakdowns and repairs to the Laboratory Manager or Team Leader, and other departments as required.
Training
- To assist with training of other Analysts/Technicians as required.
Skills Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working within a Laboratory and analysing samples.
- Practical working experience within a wet chemistry lab, ideally with chromatography and spectroscopy knowledge.
- Approachable and have the ability to train other team members
- Have strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and prioritise under pressure.
- Act with Integrity at all times.
