Job description
The work will primarily be involved in the research and development within Alcyomics. Working with the scientific team to ensure the work being conducted is keeping Alcyomics ahead of the curve with technological research. You will also be involved with the commercial projects of the business ensuring we are maintaining an efficient, robust and quality service to our clients, both repeat and new customers. The job entails working with our team of scientists developing primary cell lines and differentiation of these lines to develop in vitro 3D skin models or 3D osteoarthritic (OA) joint models. In addition to the developing pipeline of service offerings. Experience of tissue culture, immunohistochemistry, mRNA expression analysis and cytokine analysis will be required. Work will also involve sectioning and embedding of tissue, Skimune® assays and cytokine analysis. The job will also involve the Scientist contributing to other commercial activities.
Essential Requirements: -
Must have extensive tissue culture experience and tissue sectioning and staining expertise.
Working within a commercial environment would be an advantage.
Key Role & Responsibilities
· Scope and execute in vitro experimentation aimed at testing drugs using the Skimune® platform
· To contribute to client studies as well as contributing to business and other commercial activities; this will include the use of the Skimune® platform of assays e.g. T cell proliferation, IFNγ and other cytokine secretion assays; bioprinting the 3D Skimune® model and relevant immunohistochemistry
· Use multiple technologies, automation, and software solutions to enable both routine and complex experimental delivery and efficient analysis.
· Design, execute and analyse molecular, cellular and immunological assays to investigate immune mechanisms and validate the 3D models.
· Write research papers, reports, reviews and summaries
· Adhere to standard record keeping practices
· Deliver presentations to internal and external collaborators
· Work independently as well as co-operatively as part of a team to drive projects to key milestones.
· Collaborate with other internal researchers, to develop innovative preclinical assays to support client services
· Support work involving external collaborations, Contract Research Organisations and client studies
· Be proactive in exploring the best approaches and work collaboratively to harness expertise within and outside of the business
· Support line manager in a matrix team environment, and in ensuring smooth running of the group by contributing positively to the team dynamics.
· Abide to quality control measures and management requirements ensuring that quality standards are met as per the ISO 9001-2015 standard
· Complete, COSHH, BioCOSHH and risk assessments where necessary and ensure that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all individual specific work is written and verified
· Present oral and poster presentations at scientific meetings
· Identification and implementation of biochemical/biomolecular techniques through rigorous and regular review of scientific literature and developments in the field
· Set a positive example to other colleagues, and to train and mentor junior staff in appropriate techniques
· Where a need is identified to undergo relevant training courses
· Where required, work out-of-hours to ensure completion of experimental procedures
· Work diligently and accurately to minimise unnecessary repeats of experiments
· Participate in tasks on demand and be hands-on across a wide area of responsibilities
· Assist in the formulation of grant applications, researching specific areas and where applicable submit potential avenues for R&D work to the CEO for further investigation.
· Work within our quality system will need to be conducted. This will entail writing of Standard Operating Procedures, auditing areas of the business and attending Management Review Meetings with designated outputs required.
