Job description
Two exciting opportunities have been created in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for School Operations Managers, who will play a key role in partnership with the academic leadership in the delivery of strategic projects and business planning. You will hold a key relationship between our academic colleagues and professional service staff in and beyond the School. You will lead a group of motivated and committed professional services staff, oversee day-to-day operations, and lead significant projects across school and faculty – and in doing so contribute to the ambitions of the university strategy.
The Faculty Operating Service works with Faculty and School Senior Leadership Teams to support those areas of work which provide essential services to our core business of education, research, and enterprise. Students and staff come from a wide range of backgrounds, within the UK and internationally, creating a multicultural and diverse community. Successful applicants will be motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive team players who are culturally sensitive and are able to work effectively in a flexible and responsive environment.
Working in close partnership with Heads of School, you will play a key role in the realisation of the School’s ambitions. You will work collaboratively in the implementation of strategic priorities while also leading on many of the day-to-day operations of our large, diverse and busy academic schools. This will be a diverse portfolio, including staff recruitment activity, business planning and monitoring, project-based work, coordination and design of initiatives and key activities relating to research, education & student experience, enterprise and civic engagement. You will have excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills with strong attention to detail. Your experience in process improvement, project management or strategic planning, and the ability to engage effectively with academic and professional services colleagues will be important.
Your skills of leadership, influence and persuasion will allow you to build effective and constructive relationships with a wide range of academic and professional service staff and key stakeholders within School, Faculty and University, and be able to drive change through influence and persuasion. By facilitating a culture of agility and flexibility, enabling us to harness new ways of working to benefit all our activities and processes. Highly developed skills in planning, analysis, prioritisation, organisation and communication, and confidence working in a fast-paced and complex environment, will be central to achieving the objectives of the role.
You will work closely with the Faculty Senior Operations Manager and Associate Director of Faculty Operations to deliver a ‘one team’, shared service approach which is focussed on helping schools and their departments deliver on the strategic ambitions. You will strive for greater inclusivity in our community, as diversity is a strength, recognising it makes us more creative and accelerates our impact on society.
This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis though to support flexibility in employment, applications are considered for 0.8 FTE positions. The roles will be based at either the Avenue Campus, Southampton or Winchester School of Art. We have an inclusive hybrid working arrangement, which includes the opportunity to work from home in addition to on campus.
